from the stoke sentinel

"A handful of hairpin tight offside calls went against him early on and the first one that counted came with the fourth in a 4-0 win over Reading on Saturday – his 23rd appearance for the club – even if he didn’t know much about it as Josh Laurent’s shot hit his back and beat a keeper who was moving towards the opposite corner."

Ah so it had feck all to do with Dwight Gayle, a clause in his contract which the club acted on. I bet this feels like a prison sentence for him, especially under Steve Bruce.

What's happened to this lad? Can't see him on Stokes' injury list, thought he'd do well in the championship

He hasn’t scored more than 4 in a season since 2019 and he’s now 34

At this stage I couldn’t care less, he’s obviously trying to make a go of it elsewhere and isn’t clinging on to the gravy train but sadly his contract value and his current footballing level aren’t a match, not his fault. Will always remember him very fondly, feel like he’s earnt his coin

Why would we be paying his wages? Didn't his contract finish with us

He still had a couple of years left when we let him go to Stoke on a free. We'll have either paid him off or be covering part of his wages for the remainder unless he's willingly given up £
