Can see Lascelles being dropped for him tbh, he's still very much learning. Either way, there'll be plenty of game time for the 3 of them.

How's he going to learn by sitting on the bench?  There's no logical reason behind all that, he's been fantastic since Rafa came in and other than the "he's young".  There's not a single logical reason for him not play every game when fit.

We'll be playing 50 games this season, there are plenty of logical reasons for him not to play every game. Love Lascelles me so hope he gets plenty of gametime as well.

Looks a good signing and one that will give us options at the back - this lad should know all about the Championship and how to handle the physical side of it as well as being still quite young for a CB. Always believed that you should build good sides from the back and Clough, Revie, Shankly and Fergie also had that philosophy. Rafa is doing a great job...all we need now is to get Lucas in P/Ex for Gini and there will be plenty of experience and steel in the middle of the side. A pity the Adams deal hasn't come off, but maybe there is still time as Sheff U won't want to sell their best players before STs are sold.

If we get a new striker things will look very promising indeed....

Wouldn't be remotely surprised if he was better than Williamson and Taylor so it's an upgrade, not sure why there would be any complaints.

This is how I view the signing. He's not going to be a classy John Stones type of centre back, but he'll probably be a big hard bastard who will provide the no nonsense defending that Williams and Taylor were supposed to but never really delivered. Think of Robert Huth at Leicester. Hanley will be great in the championship, but also useful next year against the Tony Pulis or Allardyce style teams.

Maaaaaan... if we don't go up this season. :yao:

I feel like I've never heard of him. Have you lot been watching the Championship a lot or am I missing something?

He broke into the Blackburn team the year they went down and is/was their club captain after Dann left for Palace.  Played against us a few times, including the FA Cup game where Hatem scored THAT goal.

Keep forgetting we have Gamez aswell who can play either side.  I think we will be very tough defensively next season

Imagine if Lucas replaces Colback as well. Championship teams will be happy if they cross the halfway line against us.

Not too sure about Hanley, (would have preferred Caulker) but Rafa knows best and Im sure he can make him a better player.

A 6 ft 3 physical defender with experience at that level and captain of a team at that level is a good signing. Probably better bet than Caulker where the jury really is out and not convinced he's great at the back, probably better on that ball but happy to have Central Defenders that win the ball and play it simple to more capable midfielders / full backs. Where we are at is building a resilient defence which we have never had.

With a Central Defender the main considerations should be anticipation, concentration, positioning and strength but not can he pick a ball up and dribble past 10 players, or can he play a pinpoint pass down the channels for a winger. First and foremost he should be able to defend and be part of an effective unit.
