Only potential downside to this signing is he's 29 and we should have got him in 2012, would have enjoyed seeing him play for us when he was in the 24-28 age range.

Still, good replacement for Sissoko and I'd say Hayden (Clark as DM potentially) compliments him well.

We won't always need a dedicated sitting midfielder, but we definitely needed more presence and mobility in that area. Never seen a more porous central midfield than at times last season. When Shane Long walks the ball through the middle of your team you know you have issues.

Why do folk keep insisting we play a DM? We're playing exclusively against s*** in this division. Everyone advocating a DM is no better than Pardew.

You can play attacking football with a DM in place. Learn to tactics mate.

I'm still not really sure where he's likely to play and in what system?

I've read he played as a 10 at West Ham but surely that'll likely be given to Perez? Would be be able to play a similar role that Sissoko was supposed to be occupying last season?

People are obsessed with the idea that we should only have 11 players. Here's a radical thought, how about we have more than one player who can play in a certain position.

Aye but players still have roles. And are signed for a purpose. You sign a player like Diame, you would figure he would be on close to PL wages, so would be considered a starter Where would he play is a fair question.

I can literally imagine Pardew sitting Ben Arfa down on the bench and saying "learn to tactics, Hattam".
