Following reports that ex-Newcastle coach Fabio Pecchia will bring his Hellas Verona side to Tyneside during pre-season, another SJP old boy may be in line to face his former employers next month.

It's anticipated that Scottish top flight side Hearts will host the Magpies at Tynecastle, meaning a first reunion with Rafa Benitez for Jambos boss Ian Cathro following his departure from Tyneside in December.

United's last trip over the border came during 2013, when they visited Rangers for a friendly, just days after similar games at St. Mirren and Motherwell.

Our most recent visit to Edinburgh came back in August 1995, when Peter Beardsley's second half header gave United a 1-0 victory over Hearts.

If the game goes ahead, travelling supporters will be greeted by a three-sided stadium, with the old main stand in the process of being replaced by a new structure that is scheduled for use in September (see photo above of the ongoing reconstruction).

Make it a Saturday 3pm KO and I'll be all over that.

Makems away at Hibs on Sunday July 9th then St Johnstone on Sat July 15th. Trains would be interesting if we played at Hearts on one of those dates, although it seems our games are going to start a bit later into the summer.

I've booked a flight from Hannover to Manchester for £9.99 Thursday morning after the match. obviously got to book one out but not doing so until the first game is confirmed. Can't complain for a tenner.
