Florian Lejeune (now playing for Rayo Vallecano)

Recommended Posts

Real shame that header at the end didn't go in. He looked devastated about his mistake and was desperate to make amends; good attitude and he played well aside from the rick. He's clearly got the physicality to do well, and looks technically capable too. All the makings of a good centre-half, and the perfect manager to guide him.

He played well today tbf. The challenge for the penalty was dim as fuck, but one that all defenders will make at some point in their career; too eager to impress having being left out of the last few games, perhaps, tries to nip in and gets done by Long who has no intention of doing anything other than kicking the ball as far away as possible. Frustrating, but meh, just has to learn from it.

Probably cost him his place in the next game too

With our lads doing so much defending we'll see more silly mistakes.

Won't forget Clark made a shocking mistake in the last game. But can't see Lejeune keeping his place for the next game.

And Lascelles had a big chunk of culpability in the last two goals conceded before today too.

the Coutinho goal I wouldn't say he had a big chunk of culpability.

It was a poor clearance but we retained possession. The Ritchie clearance was worse still and I wouldn't even say he hada  big chunk of culpability. It was a great goal.

Lejeune & Clark have dropped absolute clangers though.

So weird that. He looked totally imperious until making that daft challenge. You see defenders make that challenge so often though and really you have to wonder why.

Has to be instinct. Must be hard just to let someone go past you without doing anything knowing it's the right thing to do. Natural instinct would have been he thought he can nick the ball away.

Ultimately it's poor decision making, which is the 'good' thing about it - in that it's the sort of thing that can and will be coached out. He's got the raw attributes, without a doubt.

He played well apart from his error, but it was a pretty huge error to be fair.  Absolutely no need to do it at all.

I'd 100% have Clark back for the next game, he's proven over time to be a reliable player whereas Lejeune hasn't proven anything yet.  Interested to see what Rafa does next week now.

Yedlin make a mistake vs Stoke, which could have cost us 2 points.

Clark made a mistake vs Liverpool, which could have cost us 1 point.

Lejeune made a mistake vs Soto, which did cost us 2 points.

Those are the fine margins, because it cost us points, people will remember it more. Thought he was solid otherwise. Great to see that we have good depth in defence at the minute.

You could do this sort of thing for a lot of clubs in the league though.
