Mikel Merino (now playing for Arsenal)

Recommended Posts

Shelvey has become a lot more mobile, looks fitter and more focused than before. He's an idiot no doubt and he could force Merino to be less effective but it has to be worth a go. Hayden is reliable but predictable and isn't going to hurt the opposition. Setting up against Merino and Shelvey is potentially very hard to do.

I think that a little harsh on Hayden. He might not open a team up with a pass, but he drives passed the forwards well at times and has delivered a few decent balls across the box.

I'm just happy we now have 3 players in midfield that you can make a case for starting, instead of seeing Colback every week..

He seems to be finding his feet very quickly in this league. Still getting used to the tempo, and the different challenges that Premiership referees will allow, but has vision, skill and decent pace.

He and Hayden look to be forming a good combination.

Seriously impressed with him today. He used the ball incredibly well and didn't allow himself to be bullied. He's gonna be one hell of a player in 5 years time, that's after only seeing him thrice.

All the possession/passing/interception/etc stats aside - BBC says he covered the most ground as well - Ritchie being second. So he's a grafter n'all. Imagine if he adds goals to his game as well.

He covered most ground against Huddersfield as well.

Wonder what Souness thinks of him now . Not that anyone cares but he was very harsh on him last week.

Christ the mans a bell....young player in taking a game or 2 to adapt to new league shocker.

Well, he was at a top German club.

Glad he's adapting quickly. Signing him was a really shrewd move.

Yeah, he just didn't have the opportunities to play given the depth of talent Dortmund have at CM.  He'll grow with us and get a move to Spurs or Liverpool imo.
