Kenedy

I'll be pissed off with no option to buy. Means we get an absolute quality player that we will just have to sell at the end. Just pay his worth or get an option

Do we just walk away from Kenedy if Chelsea don't want to sell?

It’s an ideal deal for us. His stock has gone way up since his loan stint so it’s good for Chelsea too. He’s only ever going to get a random sub appearance for them anyway.

Another good season will ensure we pay somewhere between 18-25m which is unreal given that he’s never done anything much for his parent club.

Plus if it turns out his first stint was a one off, we’re not under an obligation to purchase.

But for this window it means Rafa will have more cash to spend on a striker, whoever it may be.

Smart business by the club this summer so far. Wee bit ruthless if they let Ritchie go but Rafa knows what he’s doing.

We still need some cover at the back too. Clark has done his bit for us but not good enough to stand in for Lascelles of Lejeune if they get injured or suspended. If Mbemba does leave we’re way too light at the back.

It's good for Rafa either way. If he's not committing his own future, then a year loan would be perfect to see his own time through here, Kenedy would go a long way to keeping us safe for another season.

Of course its unreal, though not the way you meant it.

Another good season for us will see his value top 30m at minimum. Paper-talk had that figure mooted as Chelsea's asking price now!

An ideal deal would have been with an option to buy based on a decent loan fee with a set fee at the end of that loan.

If there ended up being no option to buy, that article says he'll only have a year left on his contract by the end of this coming season. Could make him affordable on a permanent?

Who am I kidding.

Still think he'd be okay with Lascelles, but I'd rather have better. But then we already need to replace Mbemba with somebody who can cover for Lascelles.

Chelsea are in the driving seat so fuck knows what will happen. Some news shitehawks are claiming that they are stating they just want to sell him now, so why not just offer what they want and defer the payment until next summer (if they can agree to that)

They can afford it.. although more signs that Abramovic is going slightly the way of Mike Ashley in his running of the club.. sell to buy etc.

Could complicate matters. I’d bet on the Russian in that stand off..

Read somewhere (last week) that Chelsea might insert a hefty levy into the deal, as part of the loan, to combat us playing that game ie. we'll just run another year off his contract, use that as leverage and look to sign him at a discounted price (with only one year remaining on his contract).

Yeah, we really don't have much pull in these negotiations. We want him, but are unwilling to pay the going rate. Therefore, Chelsea can attach whatever conditions to the loan (and any future fee) they like.

There was certainly a story about Chelsea inserting a premium price if we wanted an sort of exclusivity at the end of the loan. Ashley's never going to go for that.

It seems Ashley and Rafa are in a holding pattern, and so a one-year deal is perfect for all involved (except for us fans).

Seems to be quite a few places suggesting that Kenedy will be re-signed on loan this week, apart from Lee Ryder who says we are concentrating on a striker.

Of course it will be Ryder with the "exclusive" when it happens.

Guess they'll charge a hefty loan fee up front, get his wages off the books and then have an agreed price at the end of the deal?

It's a good question, though, but you could ask it for any loan-purchase deal that gets made. We've benefited from a few recently.

I meant as opposed to them seeking the fee now this summer given they're apparently not that flush anymore.

Can't imagine we are the only interested party.

They probably account for the fact that it's coming and operate on that basis, unlike what we would do.
