Other clubs' transfers

He definitely is an insufferable cunt, idk though 100m for a 30 year old with a year left is madness.

He's arguably the best striker in the world though. Looking at the other deals going on it seems fine.

Not to mention the players Levy allowed to run down their contracts.

I hope someone asks that fucker Klopp about Europa league teams spending £110m on players. Having a significantly higher net spend than a club without a ceiling. Receiving an inflated fee for a player from Saudi Arabia and whether he has any concerns that clubs that aren’t in the Champions league will ever be able to compete with those that have been established there and who benefit massively from the way remuneration in that competition works.

Been impressed with Madders in preseason. I suspect Spurs might do OK this season but they need a CB and striker pronto.

He hasn’t had a lot of minutes. Not sure what has went on with Spurs pre-season. Looks like they’ve only played 4 games as opposed to our 7 and Kane & Maddison didn’t feature at all in the 4th game. Maddison 2x45 1x70.

Maddison will do very well at Spurs but their season is going to go poorly. I think Ange will get them over-performing but their squad as a whole isn’t good enough to get anywhere near the champions league

Aye sounds like Gil. His Wikipedia article is a trip:

Quote

In the 1960s Gil ran a construction firm building gated communities. A complex he had built in San Rafael, near Segovia, collapsed in 1969, killing 58 people and injuring many others. A subsequent investigation showed that the cement in the new building had not yet set, and the whole project had been completed without use of architects, surveyors, or plans. Gil was sentenced to five years in prison, but was pardoned after 18 months by General Francisco Franco.[1]

Quote

In 1992, he shut down Atlético's youth academy,[2] which saw talented 15-year-old Raúl switch to crosstown rivals Real Madrid.

Quote

He installed a bust of Francisco Franco in the town hall and was known for walking the streets of the town shouting abuse at prostitutes and homeless people.[1] His mayorship was popular enough for him to be re-elected three times.[1]

Spanish John Hall tbh

Levy being an absolute cunt to deal with does mean he gets the most out of sales like that has to be said, it makes sense. I can't help but wonder though if their underwhelming business signing players is because Levy has pissed off so many club chairman they struggle to buy players. Brighton have the opposite approach, not that they don't squeeze value (see Caicedo) but they are generally happy to sell if the right amount comes and proffessional for other clubs to deal with. They get the rewards because young players see them as a really attractive proposition, clear pathway to first team, excellent coaching, and when they want to make a big money move the club will help them along.

The Brighton model only works as long as the production line is in line with the sales. I do think they'll have a poor season or two, and equally clubs may realize that players are part of a sophisticated system and maybe they won't look so good playing for someone else. There is no reason Brighton if they keep their quality can't win a cup, even if they are never going to have the finances to compete for the very top.

Not sure why, but I feel weirdly proud of Harry Kane actually. He's made a difficult decision to leave Spurs and I really hope it works out well for him.

Definitely don't want Bayern in our UCL group now.

Who was that Spanish chairman a few years ago that was a right cunt to deal with ? He used to go for a siesta during negotiations and then just not go back.

Didn’t think it was Gil. Was it not the Deportivo chairman? Used to have negotiate at weird hours of the day if I recall. Like 2am for Luque ? Could be wrong but definitely rings a bell.

Surely would have been better sorting this deal out ages ago though even if it was for slightly less money? To do it on the first day of the season when Kane seemed to have agreed terms with Bayern ages ago seems a bit mad. The only reason it's probably not dragged out to deadline day is due to Kane saying he'd not be leaving if he's a Spurs player come the first game of the season.

Levy seems to be someone who has to be seen as 'winning' or having the power even if it's to the detriment of the club. Same reason he put Ryan Mason in charge of a cup final over the possibility of Mourinho winning it.
