Other clubs' transfers

Bringing up Chelsea and Man City as clubs that players are attracted to because of their prestige and honours should be setting off alarm bells while you're making the point imo, because the root cause doesn't stop there.

We all know that they're the last of the new money clubs who were allowed to spend freely.

Their prestige and honours didn't just happen organically, they're the return on the unrestricted investment that allows them to keep attracting the best players, keep winning, keep making revenue in the PSR era, and for it all to be a positive feedback loop for them.

And that positive feedback loop they're in, that no one else is allowed to start up with investment, applies to more than just those two.

Doesn't matter how their honours came about. It's the reality of the situation now that I'm talking about. Chelsea have been regularly winning trophies for over 20 years.

If Newcastle or Aston Villa offered the same money to players, the vast majority are going to choose Chelsea or Man City.

That being said, I can at least understand the likes of Chelsea or City being debated in terms of prestige.

The likes of KaKa suggest there's no pull to the likes of us or Liverpool without money though. Which is utter nonsense.

I'd say it matters very much, you don't have the reality of the situation now without the cause of that reality.

Both clubs didn't have honours or prestige to lean on to attract players, so they had to lean on regular unrestrained investment and the ambition to win to get them over the line.

Villa and us don't have that and are bound by a set of rules that artificially hold us back in a way those two and more didn't have.

Put it this way, if us and Villa could spend what we wanted and started winning stuff, you, me and everyone would be saying that we got there with money. The only thing we'd disagree on would be whether that makes us and Villa unique.

Of course Liverpool, Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal etc have more pull than us, it's about how that pull is created and restrained that's crucial imo.

Selective click bait that mind

A quick search and it looks like Liverpool have brought in £435m in sales over that period. Including 35m for Quansah, 25m for Doak etc.

The fact they either have left an octogenarian Milner or a busted flush like Ox leave on frees is hardly terrible. Most of the others contributed massively to Klopps teams and weren’t at a massively resaleable age.

Konáte and Trent obviously is a combination of either underpaying or wanting to go elsewhere.

25m for Doak has been my go-to "but look at how Bournemouth do it" rebuttal this season, don't see it with him at all. That said, I previously used whatever they paid for Alex Scott for those purposes but he's turned into a proper player this season, so I imagine Doak will be brilliant in a year or two aswell now

Elliot Anderson any good?

Aye, incredibly tenacious. Always looks for a forward pass and has superb accuracy with his passing, has excellent close control, is extremely good at shielding the ball. Great work off the ball. Only weaknesses are that he could be better at finishing and he’s not super quick but he’s a very very good player with a fantastic mentality

I don’t think the price tag really matters to some clubs.

When you've got £70m for Gordon setting the standard of pricing for the summer it's always going to be high prices for players.

As long as it's not what the Scousers paid for Isak!
