There's no way it will be a long contract. Rafa won't commit to anything over 3 years with these goones. My guess would be a two year extension and a pay rise. They will probably give him the same assurances as last summer I.e "money the club generates", with the exception that we should have much more money due to premiership tv money.

if Rafa left because the club wouldn't match his ambitions, where would that leave the club/ supporters?

Fucked.

Oh, and Adrian Durham is a cunt.

he can be, but he had pardew figured out early on tbf.

IMO :

New contract till 2021

No increase in wages, maybe a few bonuses

Undisclosed transfer funds for this summer and beyond (but good enough for him to re-sign)

Done by the end of May.

i have a feeling even ashley might not be pig headed enough to fuck this up, if he just lets rafa get rafaing the value of the club continues to increase as does the exposure to his tat empire until such time as some mug comes along and pays over the odds to take it off him

it's win win for him if he just keeps things steady

Rafa is key to stabilising the club in the Premiership and moving it forward, he's also key to the most serious offer of a club sale we've had since Ashley took the helm. So really, either way Ashley needs to keep Rafa on board, even if it costs him more than he'd like in wages, more than he's like in say of transfers but what he won't budge on is putting money in to the club. Its all down to being able to spend what we've earned, if Rafa doesn't have a problem with that then there is no reason this doesn't go well for us all.

I think both Rafa and Ashley will stay.

Despite all the money coming in, buying a Premiership club is still a risky investment. We've seen the way that salaries and transfer fees eat up so much of a club's income, because of the necessity of staying up, or reaching the Champions League. Unless there's a way of reducing the financial gap between Premiership and Championship, and Champions League and Premiership, clubs will still be under a lot of pressure to take risks.

At one stage, Americans were keen to get involved, but they'll be looking at the likes of Lerner and Short, who poured millions into their clubs and ended up relegated and on the end of harsh criticism.
