Minhosa
i'm trying to understand what kind of store house of fraser is and debenhams and their equivalent in the usa HOF would be a lesser Niemann Marcus. Debenhams a slightly better sears.
Kanj
Debenhams sounds doomed from the start. HOF seems like it could withstand some time?
Minhosa
Debenhams sounds doomed from the start. HOF seems like it could withstand some time? Problem HOF has is the equivalent of the likes of Moncler, Canada Goose etc pulling out of Niemanns for financial reasons. HOF is perilously close to having lost all credibility. HOF has taken to replacing suppliers with credible brands with Donnay socks and Lonsdale trackies now as that’s the only party in Mike Town.
Kanj
thanks Minhosa, actually helpful in trying to understand the context of MA's retail dealings
manorpark
i'm trying to understand what kind of store house of fraser is and debenhams and their equivalent in the usa House of Fraser and Debenhams are both "traditional UK Department Stores". In a Department Store you can usually find anything you want to buy, in their original concept they are 'retail worlds in themselves'. In the UK the remaining (more successful) main Department Store Groups are 'John Lewis', 'Fenwick', 'Selfridges', and 'Harvey Nichols'. House of Fraser Department Stores and Debenhams Department Stores have also been very successful, until the last five years or so. It will be sad if we lose either (or both) of these traditional "Department Store" groups.
Sima
Does Next class as a department store these days? I mean they have a Home range but albeit little gifting and electronic options.
Away Day Gadgie
thanks Minhosa, actually helpful in trying to understand the context of MA's retail dealings He basically wants to buy everything and anything that’s going cheap.
AyeDubbleYoo
I never understood what his strategy was. Buying into failing things is only good if you can avoid their debts and turn them around. If they just continue to be shite I don’t see how you make any money.
Away Day Gadgie
I’m fairly certain he doesn’t really have one. I think he enjoys the attention and it makes him feel important when he “owns” lots of things.
Darth Crooks
He has a massive ego like. Part this here is billionaires own football clubs because that's what they do. SD stuff is a big part too but the above post is spot on. See the 'true entrepreneur' quotes from parliament.
Groundhog63
Asset stripping while avoiding liabilities like pension funds, perhaps?
geordiedean
He buys tens of millions of pounds worth of bankrupt stock at an absolute fraction of its retail value then sells at retail. In HOF case he bought stock that had already been sold online dirt cheap then just sells it again the crooked devious bastard
Boo Boy
I never understood what his strategy was. Buying into failing things is only good if you can avoid their debts and turn them around. If they just continue to be shite I don’t see how you make any money. he buys cheap stock. he will acquire the properties for a fraction of their value and won't have any of the pensions liabilities. he will make fortunes out of each one. Again!

Darth Crooks
Sick of this not a bad bloke crap so it doesn’t bite the heads off kittens and wipe his arse with orphans. Superficial charm. He’s overseen a shitshow here and his warehouses. Built it up from treading on the backs of the poor and desperate. Anyone ‘mates’ with him is probably a cunt too. Everyone he associates with is a piece of shit. Not necessarily due to their connection to him; they just are - all the ones we know of anyway. Llambias, Kinnear, Wise, Kelmsley, Jiminez, Gray, Keys - whoever else: all certified wankers even without the Ashley connection.

r0cafella
So correct me if I'm wrong, Debenhams are doing a procedure Ashley has himself profited from before and he's whinging about it?
