joeyt
West Ham and Burnley were really bad too
Crumpy Gunt
Where's crumpy and all the other Rafa bashers Southampton were fucking woeful. At least Rafa might have learnt about shit substitutions. Good result - we beat what was in front of us. Roll on the next home game.
Klaus
Where's crumpy and all the other Rafa bashers Southampton were f***ing woeful. At least Rafa might have learnt about s*** substitutions. Crumpy Gunt
Crumpy is probably sat at home mortified that a team he has supported for over 20 years who he spends thousands a year supporting, actually won. Don’t blame him mind... I’d be fucking devastated too! 20 years?

Benwell Lad
edit: Class. What makes us almost unique as a city.
Happinesstan
Southampton were shit, bt that is credit to us. It's the way we play. Let the oppostion have the ball and concentrate on restricting the options available. It could be argued that we hae succeeded in making the opposition look decidedly average, for long periods in every game.
cubaricho
Special mention to Rafa, got it spot on today, just when it mattered If fit, we should start every game with that 11. Home and away. I'd like to see Merino in place of Diame but yeah I'd agree.
joeyt
Diame is undroppable right now
SuperFlat
Near enough first name on the team sheet in midfield at the minute.
Odear
Name a more iconic duo... I'll wait Was watching them warming up beforehand. Everyone else had yellow shirts on but them, who had blue bibs. Some sort of sports psychology? You’d think they’d be able to pick each other out otherwise.
cubaricho
Diame is undroppable right now Agreed. I was talking more long term for what it's worth.
Guest
That touch and finish was class like.
Infinitely Content
Ritchie's goal was just like Cabaye against Stoke in the 11/12 season. Where Ba played Shelvey's role, trying to find space for a shot at that exact spot on the pitch before eventually laying it off for a first time finish. Anderson
Shelvey man, different class when he can be arsed.
Dave
Shelvey man, different class when he can be arsed. He was excellent today, Southampton allowed him to play which is always a massive fuckup.
samptime29
LOVED that second goal. Lovely stuff
Happinesstan
Shelvey man, different class when he can be arsed. He was excellent today, Southampton allowed him to play which is always a massive f***up. I'm not too sure about that. There were a number of occasions where he destroyed the theory that he needs time on the ball. Not saying there weren't occasions that you are right. Dave
Well for the two assists he was given plenty of time and space, anyway.
Happinesstan
Oh aye. He was often in space, but I think that was possibly more to do with us, as a team, working hard to give him that space. As opposed to Southampton deciding to give him it.
Raconteur
Highlights package on Optus Sports didn't show a single Southampton goal attempt - it was relentless Toon chances, with Jonjo Messi running the show
Pilko
We were class today. Strong, decisive and positive all over the pitch. Diame and Shelvey absolutely bullied the midfield and there wasn't a bad performance in a home shirt. By contrast, Southampton were pathetic. Pellegrino surely has to be getting the tin tack fairly soon.
TRon
That touch and finish was class like. If you're talking about the first goal, aye. The sky commentator describing it as a scuff finish was fucking tragic, haven't watched the MOTD coverage yet.
