But then surround him with good players and against better opposition and he looks serviceable. In contrast, you put on people like Gordon, Bruno and Hall and you could see they were levels above the opponent. Mentality.

Was surprised to his occasional poor touch and he seemed slow on the ball again. I would say he neither added or took away from us today, given that I would’ve liked to have seen a youngster try out but there you go. We will face teams this season where SL’s willingness to run will help us out. As for next year, depends on where we’re at. Agree with this. Slightly disagree with the suggestion another youngster could've been given a run out, tho. Having one, in Miley, was sufficientl. Someone, last night, said Longstaff "looked like he didn't want to be there" which, of course, was utter fucking garbage. The lad always puts himself about and did yesterday. He may even have been told to do the runs that made space for Miley? Who knows? He's not shit and can do a job. I will say, however, that it's plain to see that there are different levels in the squad now more than ever. I think the transition to shorten the gaps will ramp up in the summer. Sibierski
I would want to keep Longstaff because it’s good to have your depth that HG and attachment. But Longstaff is regularly showing his limitations, has a last window of value and much needed cash to reinvest and lastly, Miley is replacing him for point one. Rather we parted our ways with the memories good, then it ending like how it is with Almiron for example, which will happen if Longstaff isn’t sold in summer IMO. Fly on the wall, I’d love to know if we even considered Longstaff in the PSR deal last summer? Or said no, you can have Anderson?
christ
The thing that surprised me yesterday was how often he was caught on his heels and really stretching to get the ball whenever it was played into him. It did look like a player who is a half step behind those around him and wasn’t expecting it. I think he’s generally better than people give him credit for. He does a very unflashy job and carries a lot of water for those around him. However, he’s going to get fewer and fewer opportunities. If he’s happy to hang around on the fringes of the squad I’m sure Howe will cling onto him as he clearly rates him.
Lush Vlad
I just don’t feel confident at all in him as a back up now. With the change to our midfield setup. Who does he come in for because of injury or rotation? I think when he has had a run in the team. He has been fine for the most part. He had a bit of a run of games under Rafa from memory and then Bruce took him out the side? Think he took a while to regain his form. He was then an important player for Howe with that high pressing style and the 4th placed season. Now we seem to be trying to retain possession a bit better and the number 6 role has changed. I don’t see where he fits and I don’t think getting cameos or the odd start here and there suit him at all. He needs to be playing regularly and he isn’t going to get that here. Andy
To me, he's too slow on the ball and wildly inconsistent with his touch, and yesterday really emphasised that against poor opposition. He has to set himself before playing a pass, when you contrast that to our better players who move the ball quickly, even a kid like Miley, the difference is stark. It's all well and good saying "we've looked good with him in the team" or "we've missed him when he was out in the past", but the same could be said of Miggy in 2022/23. It doesn't mean that they're forever immune from criticism or that they'll always be good enough to be involved in the team. He should currently be our 6th choice midfielder IMO. Holloway
We're improving, and there's a time for players to move on, good lads who have served us very well in the not too distant past. They hardly helped their cause for a decent move with that performance level yesterday

I think he's fine coming in to see out games against tired opposition. Also think he can start the odd game provided he's alongside a good number of our other better players. Yesterday, he was in a position where he had to take the initiative and make things happen, in a much weaker team, and it was really really poor. He's at his best just keeping it simple and letting others do the more incisive stuff.

Jaqen
Pretty much all his best traits are off the ball to be fair. His work rate, winning possession, pressing and covering for others and dragging opposition to create space. Most of his best performances tend to come against better sides. I mean he was poor by even his own standards on the ball yesterday but even at his best technically he's never been great. He was a very useful cog in the wheel for a while though. AyeDubbleYoo
It’s a hangover from the Ashley era that he’s even here TBH. We’ve had a lot of these players over the years who really are lucky to be playing PL football. I actually had made up my mind not to slag him off this year

HayDen Traces
I had a feeling Moyes may have made him his first signing. I could see him doing well in a Moyes setup, it doesnt ask too much of him technically and he can chip in with a few goals, something Everton badly need. sugoinufc
you got a point. Is it then better to keep Longstaff and sell Willock? Maybe keep all 3 and strengthen other positions and raise money from sells and wage reduction in the summer out: Miggy (maybe now) Targett Lascelles Trippier Wilson Kelly Vlachodimos Pope or Dubravka?
