I can’t really remember him being embarrassed.

It happened in a couple of games at the start of the season. Can't remember which but I only attend home games. One was Liverpool, I'm sure. Each time he was upfield and we lost possession and he was chasing back towards our box like running in treacle. Everyone around me commented that he can't play that far forward these days. Maybe it wasnt picked up on TV.

Still love the guy but I don't want to see him hung out to dry next season if he's asked to go man to man in the centre circle on a deep lying forward. Like Burn seems to do with Palmer against Chelsea and ends up chasing shadows and falling on his arse.

  • 4 weeks later...

Will definitely but gutted to see him leave and the timing is really unfortunate with Trips going as well.

I do think he's struggling nowadays though, awful Mobility which is the same issue Botman and Burn have.

I would say that it is a no brainer.  Keep him at the club - even as a back up to the back ups.

He has been an absolute model professional and one of the finest pieces of football business we have ever seen at NUFC.

It would risk turning into another Callum Wilson extension if we gave him another contract. You mentioned Trippier, and there is the example of a player who has been great but is no longer physically able to perform at the same level he used to.

I have always loved Schar as a player, but we can't keep going back to the well.

It feels like people are forgetting how poor he was last season.

Much like Trippier, club legend and one of our best ever CBs, but age catches up with the best of them.

Hope he comes back as Sporting Director one day.

Do people want us to sign another CB?

I can't see us signing a new CB if we have Thiaw, Botman, Schar and Burn on the books. Especially without Europe

Would make sense for 1 of Schar/Burn to go and we get another young CB in. Acheampong, Ordonez etc

Howe cannot live without Dan Burn and he has 1 year left, so it suggests that Schar would be the one to go imo

In the pre-Brighton press conference EH sounded like he wanted to keep Schär. Wouldn't surprise me if both him and Burn are still here next season.

I do yeah, I think we need another CB to come in, a starter. I've concerns about Thiaw & Botman going forward, neither of them are leaders or have the mental qualities to replace what Burn & Schar offer/have offered us - and that's without mentioning Botman's injury issues.

Both are young guys, they'll develop that leadership and mentality.

With the business we need to do and the business we may be forced to do - I would keep Schar as a main 4 CB unless a great deal for a player presents itself.
