Schar has the odd howler in him too for what it's worth. He just scores the occasional wonder goal to help us all forget.

I think that's just life as a defender tbh, if you're not aggressive and taking chances you're just going to get rolled, if you do take chances you're going to get burned sometimes.

I’ve said it a hundred times on here but we’re just so much better with him in the team. Of course we are, he’s the best CB we’ve ever had. He’s got an intensity that translates to us being a level higher both defensively and going forward. In terms of the tangible we miss his interceptions and runs into space up the pitch so much.

And his quarterback passes.

The shining qualities he's previously consistently shown are on the wane through the ageing process. A lengthy injury is more than likely going to contribute

Yep. It's the same craic as Trippier.

Love the bloke to bits, but it's time to pass the torch.

I can't believe I'm having this debate with a fanbase who regularly criticise the manager for lacking a ruthless streak and retaining players for longer than he should

As did Lascelles and Trippier. It's a lot of senior leadership figures that will need replacing in the coming seasons.

You’re not seriously comparing Lascelles to Schar?

Forward its worth Lascelles looked after all 0f the younger players, I know for a fact he went to Mileys parents house in Stanley a few years ago before pre season in the USA to put their parents mind at ease, Lewis adores him, if Howe stays this summer he'll be back in some role.

Schar basically can't move these days.

He's been an exceptional servant who id like to see the club retain in some capacity but we've got issues if he's starting for us next season.

Why do other clubs just let their past it stars gently move on into legendhood while we have to 'retain them in some capacity'?

'He was a fantastic player for us, he'll be remembered as such and he'll never have to buy a drink on Tyneside again.

Good luck, Fab, thanks for everything.'

There, done, and move on.

I remember when he got injured I clapped for ages when he was taken off the pitch as I thought then it was maybe his last game for us. Hope its not the case.

He's out of contract. Despite how good he's been, I'm not sure we should be giving him an extension.

In an ideal world I wouldn't renew but we might be left with no choice because of budget constraints.

Probably our best value signing with Rob Lee. But I wouldn't renew his contract. He's looked so slow and sluggish this season, constantly being beaten for pace and easily turned. No surprise he lost his place to Thiaw and didn't regain it.

A true club legend who will never be forgotten, but we need to thank him for what he's done and let him leave now on a high. Not used for one more season when he gets ripped apart and occasionally embarrassed by pacy tricky forwards. Let's keep the last memories positive.

I can understand the logic in that. I feel he may well have kicked his last ball for the club.
