Mike Ashley (former owner) (still alive)

Recommended Posts

Jesus christ what a bunch of muppets.

Two promotions as a success its akin to Tories crowing about the economy growing at record 5% - after collapsing 10% due to some dumb policy.

And on infrastructure, it's a recorded fact that spending under Ashley was the worst of any Premier League club by a substantial margin. Changing rooms were literally falling to pieces, players were forced to use wheelie bins or inflatable kiddy pools rather than therapy baths, decaying stadium fabric was painted over rather than repairs. The list of neglects was huge.

And then there's being the only club in the PL not to experience growth in commercial income. He plastered his tatty logo all over the stadium for nowt.

Vote yes. Let them have him. Just like WBA happily took Brucey. Let them learn the lesson.

Yea, when they fired Cabbage I went on the WBA board and one lad said "The Geordies tried to warn us, they tried. We didn't listen and we should have."

Following their relegation from the Premier League (over 20 years ago) they've went on to get relegated a further two times under the previous owner.

Under the current owner, they've only been relegated once.

Seems like he's turned them into a stable Championship to me.

Unbelievable how that "Newcastle fans expect to be challenging for the title every year" myth still gets an airing.

We don't expect to win the title now and our owners are worth more than most countries 😂

I have sympathy with any fanbase whose club is being destroyed by a parasite owner. For that reason I can completely understand why they'd pine for the first link to someone who'll hypothetically release them from that misery. It makes sense to me that someone in that position would welcome Mike Ashley.

As for their sneering comments about our expectations rendering our views inadmissible... the irony is that there's probably some truth to it. The Championship is worlds away from the Premier League and their expectations - I assume - are different to ours. If they're happy to exist just for existing's sake, I'm sure even Ashley's methods could just about navigate the challenge of consolidating them as a middling second tier club.

If they have ambitions of being one of the best in the league and/or becoming a Premier League club, forget it.

NB. Obviously the detail of our supposed expectations (i.e. wanting to win the league every year) is bullshit.

I think you’re underestimating the potentially disastrous consequences of Mike Ashley TBH. We’re lucky that Rafa called him up and saved the day, we could easily have ended up in League One.

Agree on the desperate fans stuff, but swapping one horrific owner for another isn’t an answer.

Got a couple of close mates who are Wednesday fans. They both absolutely despise NUFC for no reason at all.

I wouldn’t wish Mike Ashley on any club, except them. Bring it on.

I always feel someone like Ashley will be good for a club who’s failing in championship.

He’s a gambling man, and will want prem football because of the revenues that gives and the advertisement exposure. So in the short term would look to get into that league as soon as he can and spend to do it.

Long term, the club will feel the pain as others invest in their infrastructure and position themselves better longer term (he won’t), but if fans just want to get up and happy to be just a number and potentially yo-yo, there’s worse owners. There’s also the trade off that if the short term gamble doesn’t work, he would cut the cloth accordingly and club would be a shell in the championship that’s even worse.

Nice to see some of the Newcastle myths are still going strong.

"Made some mistakes when he took over Newcastle (Kinnear/Pardew) but put them on a strong financial footing and definitely left them in a better place than he found them.

He's a detestable person though (I've been in a couple of meetings with him) but as a businessman he's absolutely first class"

Yeah, buying a football club for millions of pounds without doing due diligence and making business deals while so mortal he's been throwing up in the fireplace, a regular fucking John D Rockefeller

Derby don't have the pull we had, as well as the obvious gulf in quality between our squad back then and the rest of the Championship.

There's 6-7 billionaire owners down there atm, and the 3 going down have billionaire owners too. His wealth isn't enough to shoot them up the league in isolation.

No, you're right, his wealth alone isn't enough to drive them to the top of the Championship.

However, with enough desire, some substantial, well-targeted investment, and hiring experienced staff in key positions he could....

yeah, they'll be down there forever

Nice to see some of the Newcastle myths are still going strong.

This one is my favourite:

Quote

He’ll invest in the ground

he’ll invest in training facilities

he’ll invest in youth setup

he will invest what he has to in the 1st team. No more no less than he absolutely has to.

He’ll stop the club losing money left right and centre

He will find investments

He will find good sponsorship

And he will probably find a buyer in the future to take us even further forward whilst making a pretty penny himself.

Horrible man but knows how to stabilise a sinking ship

ger him in

When an entire fanbase deeply hates someone, barely without any exception, they usually have a very good reason.[emoji38] No clue why so many fans of other clubs has such a hard time comprehending that.

If another club's fan has read/listened to what our fan base have to say about him and still think he'd be good for them then more power to them.

His methods won't be any better suited to a Championship team than they were to us in the PL. The plastering of his company's ads for free, cutting of costs, lack of infrastructure investment will just have them fall behind their Championship contemporaries like he made us fall behind ours.

Anyone that wants their club run as a 'business' by a 'businessman' who couldn't increase our commercial revenue in an era where every single club's income skyrocketed from just sitting on their hands, is more than welcome to the soulless bastard.

Hopefully he'll take them out of the football league altogether. No sympathy for anyone who hasn't got the common sense to listen to our ENTIRE fan base about Mike Ashley. They deserve everything that he will do to them.

"You've got to look at the expectations of the fans, Newcastle fans say he failed them but their expectations are ridiculous. They expect to be challenging for he premier league every year and playing in the champions league"

This corker is from a poster named "northeastowl"... wonder if they're on there in peyce 🤔
