"Some online say he gets an easy ride in press conferences but that misses the point. He is challenged but you're not there to be Jeremy Paxman, dangling the sword of truth over the Head Coach and coming out with some sort of victory on behalf of supporters.

They get testy, some of those press calls. I can remember a back and forth with Paolo Di Canio and I was there when Joe Kinnear exploded in his first stint at Newcastle.

My personal high (or low) light was being the only Newcastle-centric reporter in Alan Pardew's post-match press conference after United's 3-1 defeat at Stevenage in 2011.

While the national lads were happy to absorb platitudes about it being a difficult night, I had the back page of the Sunday Sun to fill and knew fans would be as angry about United's worst FA Cup performance since Hereford. "

From Mark Douglas' new email newsletter, explaining that journos don't give him an easy ride. Apparently.

"I've been going 20-odd years and I look at the clubs I've managed - Sunderland, Hull, Birmingham - and think they were in a far healthier state than they are now.

"To say that I'm lucky, I just find it a little bit insulting but I'll keep trying to try and improve us, try and get better and try and make us play better and that will take a bit of time unfortunately because we're trying to implement change.

"So all of a sudden we have to think we're Liverpool, do we? The style is we've gone from a back five to a back four," he said.

"Hang on a minute, we've only lost one out of six. We've won four," he added. "We're trying to change something a little bit to try and go with a back four if we can.

"Now I'm lucky, am I? Lucky? Wow. I just find it frustrating and deeply disappointing because this thing of direction or a lack of tactics...what do you not understand?

"If you watched us, I grant you, we have not played well enough. But we've played with one up and one off the front and a back four now in six of the seven games and we did it out of lockdown as well apart from the last two or three games when we went to a back three against Tottenham and Liverpool. What do we not understand?

"So I'm going to question you lot to say: 'Do you not understand what we're trying to do?' You can tell the supporters and explain to them. I find it the frustrating part. Where has that come from all of a sudden?"

Wow.

Good God almighty. He has pressed the self-destruct button under childish mild criticism without any fans being anywhere near to the awful football he has us playing. For once, no one can say Newcastle fans drove the manager out of the door. He ran it down himself.

This man is thick as pigshit, and he's cracking under the pressure of... what? There's no crowd and the media are on his side.

He’s must have the biggest victim complex going; which is saying something considering the state of the society and the wider world currently.

Patently obvious that he thought he’d be absolutely adored, like he is by the local bald squad in the media, by the fans because he’s local and has a terrible ham accent and that alone.
