KaKa
so it appears the main split between Rafa and the club can be boiled down to Rafa wanting more control on the incomings while the club appears to want to go for a DOF model (obviously theres probably more but I'd bet this was the main sticking point). Not sure if one model is really better than the other but the main problem with the DOF model for nufc is most other clubs that implement it have a coherent football philosophy in mind they're trying to build over time regardless of who the head coach is while the only philosophy NUFC have is buying players they can sell on for big profits. It's purely a recruitment issue rather than a footballing philosophy. The club wants their managers to select players from a list the recruitment team continuously builds over time, which is centred around younger high profile talents that are not necessarily established yet. Essentially MA is positioning the club as a place these players can join to put themselves on the map so to speak. It seems they had even previously made contacts with agents to facilitate getting these kinds of players. Most managers will typically want more flexibility and say in getting players not on the recruitment team's list, which is why we've had to go down a division and get Steve Bruce. This season is going to let us know if the recruitment team and all the contacts are good enough to get us the kind of elite talent that allows any muppet to be in charge of the team. geordiedean
If CUNT is splashing out to get the fans back onside he can fuck off. I hate him even more for this. He's like the worst of step-dads, splits your arse at bedtime, then buys you the most expensive dress in the shop. :yikes:
Disco
Newcastle also don't have a DOF. How do you not know theres one lurking in the shadows pulling strings, incognito like? Female intuition.

Gallowgate Toon
Bruce is going to fluke this year, isn't he? We bring in some decent attacking quality while he capitalises on the defensive structure already built, a la Martinez at Everton.
Gallowgate End
Love this mental theory that Rafa Benitez doesn’t like young player you can sell on Rafa signed Koulibaly at 22 for £7m now worth £100million on his own. Rafa signed Jorginho at 22 for £8m now worth £50million. Also played a big part in coaching Longstaff into a potential £50million player. The work Rafa did on Longstaff out of possession doesn’t get enough credit on his value.
AyeDubbleYoo
That's not the theory, the theory is that he sometimes also wants to sign older players for footballing reasons.
TRon
That's not the theory, the theory is that he sometimes also wants to sign older players for footballing reasons. Exactly why the club refused to budge on spending £16m on Rondon, but were happy to splash out £40m for Joelinton.

KaKa
That's not the theory, the theory is that he sometimes also wants to sign older players for footballing reasons. Exactly. And also it seemingly can't be any young player either. Has to be one from the club's lists (And this is likely also influenced by contacts they have with certain agents). Although I'm sure they would have likely been more open to players within the same parameters outside of their list, like Merino was I believe. Sho Time
With the chronic mismanagement of the club Joelinton will find himself in a similar position to Mitrovic when he first arrived. Probably worse, given the dire situation we find ourselves in now. We won't make a profit on him, given we'll go down without a fight.
Dontooner
Smells something fishy with this transfer, not sure if Joelinton is worth 40 mil given his short track record. The resale value could be tough to recover as well. Sounds like 20 million quid is going into some very full pockets to me.

This season is going to let us know if the recruitment team and all the contacts are good enough to get us the kind of elite talent that allows any muppet to be in charge of the team. If it was that easy, you wouldn't need managers. Rafa knows how to put together effective teams, you need a particular type of player for each role in his sides. I have no idea how Bruce sets his teams out, but I suppose the idea is that if you have a squad with a few good players in it, you should be able to shoehorn a decent team from it. That was Pardew essentially, but as someone with absolutely no idea about coaching, the teams he put out were often comical.
relámpago blanco
The thing is we still need another striker and at least 1 winger and some decent fullbacks. Probably another centre mid as well and with all of that all that will have improved probably is our full backs.
LV
Newcastle also don't have a DOF. clearly the chief scout is kinda acting as one since this transfer seems one he really wanted to get through. DOF would look to build a squad and depth, we have none of that. Exactly. The only thing his model is looking to build is profit for Mike alongside exposure for his brand. That’s it. RS
He buys cheap stuff to move on and tells the manager to get them in the shop window, albeit this time he’s gone flannels rather than SD. He has a few caretaker players to keep the shop tidy and on the high street. It’s failed twice. Acceptable to him. At best Joelinton will give us 1 possibly 1.5 decent seasons. If he doesn’t get a move the toys will be out the pram and he’ll chuck it.

Gallowgate End
Can’t wait to see the sell on value of a player that is already costing £40million Sale on value mostly comes from buying cheap and selling high. £40million is his potential not his current value. Would much rather we paid over the odds and took risks on higher rated prospects like this tbh, rather than try to find Perez type miracles on a regular basis. Just doubt very much whether this Nixon guy knows more about football players than Rafa Benitez.
