Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for Al-Ahli)

I feel like a chunk of the fanbase live in some alternate reality, or 2/3 seasons in the future, where maybe we have the squad depth to actually entertain the idea of not playing our best attacking threat.

I get that he can be very hit or miss, and a defensive liability at times, but the fact of the matter is we win more games when he plays. That isn't a coincidence. Even when he is having a poor game he can either generate something out of absolutely nothing and turn a draw into a win, or defeat to draw. Or the other team has to commit at least two men towards him when he is dribbling with the ball, generating space for others.

Can’t wait to boo him tonight; soft French piece of shit. Hopefully a real player like Karl Henry or Kevin Muscat snaps the lazy cunt in two when he’s doing a trick instead of a safe English pass. Greedy fucker.

It’s unfair Maxi cops this much criticism, especially when Burn has cost us at least 6 of the last 9 points and gets away with it.

Interesting point. You’ve never mentioned it before.

Burn has won us far more points than he has cost us, and even in the matches he has made mistakes he has performed very well for the majority. His contribution to our improved defensive performances has been massive.

Also, there's nothing unfair about the criticism of ASM whatsoever, he needs to iron out a few things. It's been particularly glaring this season, because of how admirably the team performed when he was out injured.

personally think a defender who has spent the majority of his career at championship level is very over hyped . He’s steady- that’s about it and better on the ball than lascelles

asm puts himself out there , tries things then gets put down for them not coming off some times. People would prefer a team of runners or obertan I’m sure

This is such a load of bollocks like

People don’t get on his back because every now and again one of his tricks doesn’t come off.

People get frustrated when he attempts to take on 3 players in his own half, despite a pass available, and then loses the ball and we concede or are under pressure.

As everyone acknowledges, he has talent. But he’d be a far better player if he knew when to release the ball and when to try one of his majestic runs.

Recognising his limitations doesn’t equal wanting Obertan.

If we stay up it will largely be for the difference Burn made coming in for Lascelles.

Nobody cares about ASM trying things, he just needs to learn when to do those things, to release the ball when multiple players are trying to crowd him out, and to be more engaged when we press.
