He'll go nowhere bigger and better than here, so whilst you may be correct he needs to learn if he wants to meet his own potential Agree with this. None of the elite sides play in a way where they can facilitate someone having the type of instinctive free role that people think ASM thrives with. Any elite manager has a pretty specific system/strategy in mind with little to no room to carry one player in the side existing outside of the system. Bimpy474
His form hasn't been great as he's not played maybe? And he needs the 3 to 4 games to get the match fitness and feel back. Wondering if the training, overcoaching, different systems, a position change etc are affecting him. Sometimes the simplistic answer is the correct one, he just needs a run of games. I mean playing from the left he gave Man City so many problems individually and linking up with Joel especially. And he was playing well enough then until he got injured. Gallowgate Toon
It's harder to tolerate flair players rejecting systems now when, Messi, one of the most instinctive players in the world thrived under a tactics psycho like Guardiola.
AyeDubbleYoo
Messi was drilled from childhood to play the Barca way as well, wasn't he? Not sure exactly when he came over to Spain. Edited February 14, 2023 by AyeDubbleYoo
The College Dropout
Ayte Messi is not an individual player at all. That doesn't work. ASM hasn't had a decent run in the team all season. Not drawing any conclusions yet except that his passing can be extremely sloppy.
Kid Icarus
Messi can never be cited as an example, we're talking about mere mortals here.

KaKa
Should have more space today as we won't be facing a team that defends deep, and so hopefully he looks a lot better.

Had his perfect role tbh. ‘Just go and see what you want you Maxi lad and do a little bit of pressing when you can.’ Knowing he’s playing for a start is probably a fair bit motivation too. nufcnick
I have been one of maxi’s biggest critics but that was his best game since the city game, he has to start next week. We have to find a role for him where he’s not reliant on tracking back as much as when he on the left he just leaves Dan burn isolated, possibly a switch in formation with him playing behind the striker. I would also be tempted to give miggy a break for the City game and bring in Gordon
