Honestly starting to think he hasn't been properly replaced. We've zero ability on the ball bar Nick.

Gordon looked an unbelievable upgrade when he took his number in 23/24. Far better suited and far better output.

I do think we miss having a player like him. Not him particularly. I think Doku’s display yesterday shows the value of having some unpredictability in the side. Ndiaye at Everton similar. We appear incredibly functional atm and we’re suffering from a lack of creativity and guile.

Far harder working, and more intelligent in working with team mates for sure. But Gordon doesn't really have much of an answer to a low block, ASM could create out of nothing. Wan Bissaka might have had a harder job putting Maxi in his pocket for 90mins.

He is hard to be 'used' as part of a well planned tactic. However he is also usually one of the better player on the pitch when our tactic doesn't work. Given how often we struggle tactically in the last 24 months, I do think a player like him would be valuable in our squad.

ASM wasn’t useful against a low block. Why are we rewriting history like this? He was a better player than Gordon on the counter admittedly because one on one he’d go past players with ease on the outside or inside.

I wasn't a fan of ASM just to be clear. That's why I put in the bit about him being less intelligent and harder to work with for team mates than Gordon. But in tight games against packed defences you do need to get past defenders, and he could do that. His problem was that he wanted to do it all by himself and wasn't aware of what was going on around him.

I don't rate him but he would genuinely offer something different to our wingers, for 6 months why not

Entertaining player to watch when he’s on form but not an Eddie type player and he was one of the first he sold. It’s funny people saying how he lacked assists/ goals when we were much a weaker side , compare that to Gordon with us in a stronger side now. Being honest I would rather barnes on the left anyways above all them but I’d still bring maxi back , he would be brilliant till the end of the season . Good player off the bench for the last half hour

Horrible to hear what his kids have experience, just awful

The subject of him coming back is a separate matter, though.  He’s spent the last couple of years doing not much in the Saudi, Turkish and Mexican leagues - are people serious in thinking he’d do a job in the PL?  I’d say what he has achieved since is proof of the correctness of Howe’s decision

Essentially this, although Eddie has maintained several times since him leaving that he didnt want to sell him.

On the upside he would keep Alex Murphy and Woltemade company as players that wont fit Howes system.

His league output since leaving is essentially the same as every season with us isnt it? A handful of goals, a handful of assists and around 20-30 appearances. Seems pretty consistent when I checked transfermarkt.

Dont see him returning though.

I reckon I’d expect more output playing in a weaker league than what he was racking up in England (which was never earth-shattering)

You haven't learnt after all this time Eddie's lies through the back of his teeth? He sold him as soon as he could

Alex Murphy doesn't fit Howe's system?
