Put it like this, at the start of these checks 12 weeks ago or whatever it has been, did anyone there think the new owners would give Carroll a new deal because I certainly didn’t.

We don't have new owners yet though.

Yeah that’s what the discussion is, is this a Ashley is staying decision or not.

The club still has to keep going, offering new contracts isn't relevant to the takeover. It isn't in the interests of Ashley/Charnley to lose players they consider assets, when there's still the potential for this deal to later fall through and them have lost said assets.

it's amazing how many people think everything stops at a business when a takeover is happening.

What's more worrying that the deals that have been signed, it's the one that hasn't in shortstaff.

That's because he wants more than the club at present are offering. I think he's clearly waiting for as long as possible as he knows he'll get a much better deal with the new owners. That in itself gives no reason to worry about the other 2 new deals as both those more than likely said yes to what was offered to them straight away.

I guessing that the new owners can't actively negotiate contracts and deals, or atleast confirm them, until the takeover is officially complete. As if they agress a contract with Longstaff that is more then Ashley is willing to pay, and then the takeover gets rejected, Ashley is then forced to pay over the odds for a player he doesn't think is worth that amount.

The easy way around that is for Longstaff to take the so called Ashley contract on a 2 year deal with it written in to negotiate a fresh deal after 12 months. At least that way hes not tied to the club, and surely the takeover will have passed by then, and he can renegotiate with new manager and owners?

assumes ashley is a good faith actor and would accept that, which i doubt, he doesn't like people defying him

Not sure that's entirely fair, I (and many others on here I'm sure) have a business background and don't widely hold the opinion you've stated there. But I'd wager that like me, the overwhelming thought is "this is Michael James Wallace Ashley and very much a specialist case" which throws any sensible instincts out the window.

I've still got the R.E.M. VHS compilation that you recorded for me, with the Unplugged session on. Must be knocking on 30 years ago  :yikes:

Haven't got a VHS machine anymore though

I've got the Bingo Hand Job performance on vinyl :)

bigfella[/member]  Yes it was not long after it aired as I think I worked with you 1992ish. I’ve got 2 VHS machines if you need one?

Robster[/member]  I’ve got bits of it on cassette somewhere

Tbf it feels like we've been told it pretty much does by Ashley nearly every fakeover. It was often the whole point of the previous fakeovers to stop business being conducted. Can't say I'm surprised if people are concerned that business suddenly seems to be kicking off again.

I'm just as concerned as I have been the whole time because I just don't believe we're allowed nice things.

An argument could be made that they were fakeovers, sprung up to cease business or astronomically reduce it to undermine Rafa. This however is genuine and is an answer from the PL away to being announced. Business hasn't ceased because there is no real reason for it to.

Fully agree with you there. But that doesn't mean I'm surprised that the waters have been muddied for various people in part due to the constant stream of bullshit thrown about by the club for the past thirteen years, especially for those with no involvement in the workings of business takeovers.

To be fair, if Manquillo and Caroll have signed new contracts then those discussions will have been going on for some time. No way they just woke up this morning and decided to get them on longer deals.

For that reason I don't think it has anything to do with there being bad news on the PL's decision because by the time any such deals were signed that news would be out anyway. Which it isn't, so they're not linked.

Which is totally fair as it's hard to separate anything takeover related apart from the failed attempts or PR stunts from Ashley's mates. But when you think about this takeover logically, Manquillo and Carroll signing extensions and a free agent being signed will have zero bearing on this takeover nor does it mean Ashley is expected to still own the club. Ashley probably couldn't care less what's happening at the club as long as he gets his £300m.

 Agreed. Logically speaking it's nothing to get worked up about.

Tbh I was just flippantly defending a group of people I'm not even a part of, and don't even know how many exist. I've got 20 minutes left in the work day and must be getting even more bored as fuck than usual.

The Saudis are making too many Concessions to be doing this off their own back they have to have been told by the PL “if you do all of these we will pass the deal”.it’s just so much of a pain in the arse waiting to be told it’s done

I did because you can’t just sign four new strikers and he has something to offer.

It looks like the club is still backing Bruce to an extent. That proves nothing long-term, but the cost of deals like this are peanuts to the consortium if it gets in.

I am really, really pissed off with all this waiting though.

Yet another week with absolutely no answers. Soon PL bosses will head out to summer holidays (or maybe have already after this weeks meeting) and we will still be asking same questions late-August. Lovely.

PL bosses won’t finish for the summer until this season has finished, and I’m sure the new owners would get the lawyers in if the PL said “ it’s holidays now will will see you in 5 weeks with an answer”

Purchases and contract negotiations are usually frozen during a takeover of a business.

In Football Manager, real life is a tad different i guess.

No outside of football, in business. No idea about football takeovers though

I haven't engaged much in the whole takeover crap, but quite a few signs now are pointing towards Ashley staying.

Glad I didn't waste my energy, effort and time on yet another sorry episode of Ashley's NUFC. Cunt.

For what it’s worth, Caulkin has pointed out that 2 weeks ago they reported on the player contracts extensions and they had the approval of the new owners.

He also says it’s not an indication of Ashley staying on but the club just doing business.
