@Theregularscalled this months ago. Think he predicted a Saudi move but West Ham interest might give him food for thought. Was £26m being banded about yesterday?

Anything over £20 million and it's a no brainer. £26 million would be fantastic business.

There is that.

Reckon Saudi would cough it up nee botha, but I doubt a PL club would

Aye agree, but if 25 million for ASM was fair market value I don’t think over 20 for Wilson would be considered.

And this why it's impossible to fairly value players with the inflated prices paid by the Saudi League. He's been in the England squad and a champions league team for a league wanting to raise it's profile, so there's logically that.

But then we'd still have to prove it.

West Ham apparently showing interest at those prices might be interesting, then.

If we get 15 million for Wilson we've done well.

Wood went for that much last year, and a half fit Wilson is 10x the player.

If we can get over £20m and replace him with DCL I think that’s fairly good business.

That said, I love Wilson and he’s been up there with one of the better strikers we’ve had here in my life time. Only Ba comes close post-Shearer. I’ll still be sad to see him go despite the injuries.

Two Saudi clubs interested, one PIF owner the other not.

Non PIF club bids 50m, we accept but Wilson fails to agree terms

PIF owner club then matches the 'fair market value' offer and Wilson agrees terms.

Nice way round the rules...

Wilson is 32, has had two ACLs and has 1 year left on his contract. His numbers are still excellent, but I can’t see a PL club giving him more than a 2 (maybe 3) year deal, so his book cost would be huge at anything other than a nominal fee.

I could see a newly promoted team taking a punt on an experienced striker who might give you the 10 goals that will keep you up for a season, and to be a positive influence in the dressing room, even for those times when he can't play. Genuinely could/should have been an England regular.

He is an Alpha player and has to get used to being second choice or move on...

Actually think a two year contract in Saudi would be ideal for him as he deserves rewards for the effort he put in for us during the Bruce years!

I wonder whether many players in his situation regard being binned off to Saudi as a "reward," lucrative and undemanding though it may be.  Maybe more of a consolation prize for someone who wants to keep competing at a high level but can't find any takers.  I don't know.
