FIFPRO (world players union) spoke out early to say it will "vigorously oppose" any moves to bar players playing international football.

Kernts.

That's fair enough IMO. They've had no say in it whatsoever and are under contracts which they signed before this was announced

They can leave those clubs by way of a transfer if they feel aggrieved.

Won't deny that I used to be a good deal more obsessed than others  but even for the relatively "casual" section of international fans the history is a huge draw. People want to be able to talk about legends, and rivalries, and famous games and all of that loses a good deal of meaning when everyone is starting from nothing in a Super League. I think even people who say that they like the idea now will have a change of heart once they see the actual product.

That history will still exist. Just like the history before the PL still exists [if rarely mentioned].

Not much they can do though surely, if FIFA says they are banned from selection then they won't get picked. The risk would be disqualification for their own country I would think.

There will never be another Merseyside derby. Or at least not a meaningful one, given that the Premier League will become a glorified reserves competition.

Rooney scoring the hat trick to win Man United the title against West Ham loses a bunch of meaning when people probably won't even remember what West Ham is in five years time.

It doesn't feel like it now, but these things matter in the long run.

This is nothing more than a money grab from the owners, nowt to do with clubs or fans (in the true sense)......games will be played around the world and to full stadiums (of customers), until the product becomes stale which it will. The aim will be to sell the TV to Asia, India, America, etc.......the theft of our game is upon us

Can see it now, in a few years a young lad in Liverpool....."what's that Dad?.....oh that's Anfield son, a club called Liverpool used to play there"

Aye. The pundits will probably never hype another game as long as we live.
