Just when you think someone has everything in life. Snatched away in a split second.

Give someone you love a hug, nothing like a sudden death to put the small hassles and disgruntlements into perspective. RIP os irmãos.

Awful news. For parents to lose two sons, a wife to lose a husband and three kids to lose their dad is just absolutely heartbreaking for any family to have to come to terms with

Having lost several friends in car crashes, I never fail to appreciate just how devastating the everyday act of driving a car could be

Absolutely.

In his case it seems that a tyre blew up and he was going very fast.

You might drive on a defective tyre for miles and miles and miles, and it will only blow up after you expose it to a certain speed.

So even one-off "speed test" sessions may be fatal. Even if the road is clear and all seems safe.

Change your tyres for new ones (not reconditioned) and as soon you detect any changes in their shape.

Drive safely and call the people you love frequently.

It was a tyre blowout as well, not much you can do to mitigate against that. I still remember a few years back being driven in a jeep in the Atlas mountains on a narrow road with no barriers, and thinking fuck me, a tyre blowout and that could be it. You can't wrap your head around it if you think about it too much.

Yep, so many variables that can go horribly wrong when driving. For instance, one person I know died as a result of driving over a small patch of black ice

You have to try not to think about it too much, just drive sensibly, show respect to other road users and be constantly aware of the fact that you're in a machine that could easily end your life, or the lives of other people

Why does it always feel so surreal when it’s a footballer or famous person this happens to?

We know so much more about them in this age, we’ve followed their careers, we know a bit about them through interviews, conduct in the pitch, their journey from youth to pro…think for anyone who had the same dreams of love of football it feels like thats a guy who had the same dreams as me, he made it, had a wife and kids and success, now passed at the most important part of his young life.

I think a footballer often hits harder than other famous people because if you're match-going you've seen these people in the flesh, sometimes many times. Jota was there in the flesh at Wembley on one of our most memorable days.

Life is precious and precarious. We live every day aware - somewhere in our brains - that it can all be taken away in the blink of an eye. We can usually ignore that fact, or we can fight against it, or we can distract ourselves enough that it fades a bit.

But when a footballer in his prime dies, when a 28 year old at the top of his profession dies, when the death is so seemingly random as a blown tyre at the worst time, you can no longer ignore the capriciousness of life itself. That’s why it hits so hard. If it can happen to him - with all his money, fame, success, fitness - we know it can certainly happen to any of us.

We are not built as creatures to actually comprehend that fact.

This is so shocking. I’m at a loss for any reassurance. I wish peace and calm for his family, friends, and loved ones. He seemed like a wonderful person and was some player as well. RIP

Surprised they can determine it was a tyre blownout so soon, especially as it looks like the car was completely destroyed.

Probably got witnesses

It's been reported he was overtaking. So maybe it is from a witness statement from someone in the other car. Cos I doubt you'd be able to tell from the aftermath.

I guess it could've left a telltale marking on the road surface too.
