They would have hit a sturdier and closer, central crash barrier right against the road. Instead they skidded over a small grassy slope and into a flimsier crash barrier.

 

I'm no expert in crash mechanics of course, so could equally be spewing bollocks!

And the new season will open up with Liverpool at home on the Friday night. That game takes on a totally different context and perspective now. Up there with the shock of Gary Speed's sudden passing this.
