Yes it means nothing, but you can say that about any minutes silence applause.

Would you prefer it was just ignored completely?

It doesn't mean nothing, it's a collective show of decency and respect

Apparently on his way to catch a ferry from Santander back to England for pre-season after a doctor recommended not flying post-surgery.

Was just reading that, some final destination death has you marked shite. Just unreal.

RIP Jota

Brutal for Diogo and Andre’s families and friends. But I’d imagine there will be some real emotions on show in games early on from their teammates.

I’m sure plenty here have played sport after a teammate has passed away. I’ve had the misfortune of doing so on two occasions and I found it really hard to keep my emotions in check. Mainly before and after the game, for myself.

May they both rest in peace.

This news was terrible, the circumstances, just wed, the loss of himself and his brother, and a family left behind without their father and husband, and the parents losing their two sons.

Shocking and very sad.

No I get that, I think prem doing something as a whole yes. Don’t think there needs to be a grief off though between clubs

I’ve been struggling with this all day and can’t stop thinking about it. Married 10 days ago to his childhood sweetheart. 3 children and genuinely came across as a lovely and very humble person.

His wife of 10 days has lost the love of her life, his children have lost their father and their uncle and his mother has lost her two sons. Beyond heartbreaking.

Really brings home the fragility of life and our own mortality and the need to not put off stuff, and to do them while we can.

As someone who is getting married later this summer, this has hit me very hard. Definitely made sure to give an extra hug to our lad and wife to be before setting off for work today like

I remember I didn’t particularly like him, or more so didn’t like him playing against us which I guess meant I rated him quite highly as a player.

I hope he gets some proper recognition from all teams when the season starts. Tragic things like this tend to bring out the best in rival supporters.

I’d also be much happier if the media would stop sharing photos of the car wreck.. it’s grim.

I almost googled it then said to myself: "You morbid fucker, don't". So I didn't. Such an terrible thing, all of it and every angle.

Tragic. For his wife and their three kids, and his parents losing two sons.

If we're their first away game, it would be nice to do something respectful, and I'm sure the club and flags folks will get onto it.

It sounds like he was carrying an injury for most of last season and it was circumstances connected to the surgery that placed him where he was for the accident.

Mr Blonde died on the same day, great actor.

Rest in peace to all 3 of them, and the thousands that also died yesterday. Thoughts to the families.

Bloody he'll,I just noticed that Val Kilmer and Dawn from Buffy died this year too. Dawn was only 39, beautiful lassie.

It's amazing how many celebrity deaths go unnoticed,  never mind ordinary people.
