He slid in for a bit of a 50/50 tackle and immediately signalled he was in bother. They didn’t show loads of replays so it wasn’t really clear what he had done

Tiniest of touches on his ankle.

It looks like one of those ones that hurts because it’s your ankle, but looked like he was making the most out of it.

Looked to me like he twisted his ankle.

We're desperate for a midfielder, perhaps even more than we are for a new centre back though I think it's imperative we sign both. Gallagher seems like a nice fit all-round but he'd be expensive, and I'd personally take an old head like what Liverpool and Arsenal have done with Endo and Norgaard.

We need two CM's really. Willock has to be counted out of a genuine squad depth at this point.

It's higher priority than CB imo, where we already have better quality cover for fewer, less taxing positions. I'm always stunned when reading people's transfer wish lists which don't include a single CM. It's absolutely critical.

Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Gallagher, Miley. For two or three positions. I’d be happy with that.

The presence of Elanga, Gordon, and Barnes could lead to four across the middle with two (yes please) strikers in a 4-4-2. Or with one striker (please God) and five at back.

Another guy who we've out grown. I'll forever be grateful for him for almost single handedly keeping us up during the dark days but he's just not up to standard anymore. The best ability is availability and he simply isn't reliable in that regard

I honestly think people on here are writing him off too soon.

He is a very good footballer who had a horrendous season just gone mainly due to injuries. He will come good again. Yes bookmark it (whatever that means).

Fingers crossed, I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, it wouldn't be for the first time!

He is in a similar boat to Wilson. Murphy will likely be the same now.

He needs a good tun of 8-10 games to regain top form. We simply aren't in a position to carry players like that anymore. If he can find a way to get back on form he is a gamechanger for sure. Not worldclass though and thats where we want to be heading with squad turnover.

The one thing I will say is that Joe appears the least committed player in the squad mentally (aside from the wantaway rat). I don’t mean he wants out, I just don’t think he’s got that strong a competitive spirit compared to his teammates. Ramsey coming in might be good for him on that front though, might make him fight more

He’s 26 in the next couple of weeks. If, big if, he can stay injury free and overcomes the obvious confidence issues he has, there’s a place in the squad for him. Murphy came from a far worse position (ability wise & age wise) to become an important member of the team.

He was absolutely class in 22/23 and was very unlucky not to get called up to an England squad in that period. That assist for ratboy against Spurs got nowhere near enough love - if it was Trent or De Bruyne they’d have been salivating for weeks.

Dreadfully unlucky couple of years with injury, really is a shame because I do believe he’s a good player. That being said, it seems his time is up now we’re getting Ramsey.

I think hes probably petrified of injuring himself again. Gets to the point where you play with injury on your mind so much you actually do things that will injure you more (run differently, hold back in tackles (opposition then find it hard to judge)). Think Sturridge had the same problem. Pure mental block on injuries, and becomes a sulf fulfilling prophecy.

He is a different player to Ramsey though isn't he?

Also his purple patch under Bruce came playing more down the right didn’t it? Hope he gets fit and proves us wrong. Just don't think he can get the game time to get back to the form we need him at.
