There's been a lot of chat about wasting sub spots in 96, and makes sense to bring pen takers on - but give them some time. And you wouldn't think you'd put 19yo Saka on pen 5 - that's down to Southgate and other players not stepping up. Score to take it to sudden death - Donnarumma has to commit. We controlled it first half but didn’t react at all when they changed it in the second. As a Liverpool fan, it is hard to admit, but barring any new goalkeepers developing, he has sealed the England number one spot for the next 4-6 years with his performances in this tournament. Then suddenly he’s expected to take a pen like that. Rashford, totally out of form and again hasn’t been used. Saka not having a good game and only 19. England got their tactics wrong from the 2nd half - Southgate (like Bruce does) dropped England onto the edge of our 18 yard box and defended from there. It's asking for trouble. If he doesn't do a stutter run up and takes a conventional penalty but still misses then what? Is it sensible then? The guy missed a pen. It happens. It happened 4 others. Shouldn't be taking guys on in the last minute of extra time to take pens, especially when they have barely kicked a ball all tournament. Southgate got the shootout wrong.
