The College Dropout
That’s excellent news. From a NUFC perspective - the deeper the PIF ties to the region. The better. That’s a power move.

christ
The success of the Emirates route is always going to be a problem for Saudi getting flights established out of NCL. If they own the airport then there’s a greater chance of it being jettisoned in favour of a Saudia alternative.

Can't imagine many people want to go to Saudi... There is zero chance of them having a hub out of Newcastle. A route maybe, but again, the demand wouldn’t exactly be large. The tourist demand to Saudi isn’t very big, compared to Dubai. The North East doesn’t even have a Muslim population large enough to justify a pilgrim to Mecca route. Any route to Saudi would be relying in freight to/from the Middle East, and Asia, and onward travel. Edited December 17, 2024 by Stifler

El Prontonise
There's nothing in that actual article about Riyadh Air or in the Times one, it's just someone putting 2 + 2 and getting 5. PIF will probably be looking simply purchasing the Infrabridge stake who are selling, they also bought 15% of heathrow.

Hajj is before the second Eid of the year and Umrah which is like Hajj but performed anytime outside of the Hajj period. edit: https://www.ons.gov.uk/census/maps/choropleth/identity/religion/religion-tb/muslim Seems like 9% in Newcastle. The Muslim population is low in the North East - the amount of people that go on the Pilgrimage is fairly low as well - both Hajj and Ummrah are quite expensive too - so they won’t really benefit - but may benefit from direct flights to Pakistan from various cities in UK (Manchester - Birmingham - London) as there is a huge demand
