Pope made 4 or 5 saves that wouldn't have happened last season. If Bernardo and KdB had been shite they'd have lost. I don't think them having a higher xG dictates that we should be more pragmatic. We went toe to toe with them and got a deserved point

But then if you're thinking about your team set up, you don't make such assumptions. And to be clearer about how the game panned out, we went toe to toe in the first half and were pushed back and pretty much dominated in the second. Gallowgate Toon
Getting points from 'elite' teams this season is purely a bonus compared to our aim. We need to find ways to play against these sides, we'll take some humpings along the way but also nab some points the other way too.

Hanshithispantz
We were deservedly 2 goals clear, I'm struggling to see how anyone can believe we should have went about the game a different way. Pope made saves but then we should have had a penalty, and we missed a few chances of our own on top of that. We dealt with holding the lead poorly but City have a tendency of doing that to teams when they need goals.
Bimpy474
We played well because were now a good side, thanks to our superb manager. We just run the champions who are ten years ahead of us in development so so close. You can see us unfurling as a force, a well run football club who will be near and at the top for years to come (hopefully). I get seeing some issues, but it's churlish to find faults today, not after what we just watched. 8 months ago we had a fucknugget getting 11 men behind the ball hoping to nick something from games against teams like Villa. Fuck being negative and nitpicking, tonight is for having a big feckin smile on, on what we now are in such a short space of time. I love watching us, i can't wait for the next game, just can't wait, I'm like a big kid again.

Jaqen
We are miles off City in terms of individual talent but we were the better team for a lot of that match and made them really uncomfortable. Of course you need your best players to have a good game to get a result against a side like that. We battered Arsenal fighting for a top 4 spot with the same kind of approach. We shouldn't be scared of 'the elite' and change our style. With that crowd behind us at home and the pressing and aggresion we make it extremely difficult for anyone. RodneyCisse
Popes different gravy to Dubs, feel like the foot saves would have only been done by Pope.
David Edgar
Darlow had a pretty bad time at the start of last season IN A BRUCE TEAM but if you look at his stats across his other stints in goal for us then he stacks up favourably against Dubravka. On their day, much of a muchness. We've moved on from both being near our number 1 spot.
Geordie Ahmed
I personally don't understand this clamour for pragmatism against certain sides, I much prefer us giving it a go and trying to get something from the game, could easily have won today but I also accept it could have been a thumping if things didn't go right but a bit odd to worry about that unless it's a regular occurrence during matches, which so far it isn't Our situation has changed, under Rafa I totally understood the approach he took, it made sense and avoiding a hammering was important because GD towards the bottom is far more critical and also getting hammered when your only aim is to just stay up can be demoralising The good thing is we aren't that team anymore, it's not just about staying up, it's about trying to be the best we can be and compete as much as possible so pragmatism isn't something to clamour for imo Edited August 21, 2022 by Geordie Ahmed

Once Dubs came back into our side, be it under Rafa, Bruce and Eddie, the difference was there for anyone to see. You need help if you think Darlow is as good, he's simply nowhere near as good as Dubs. It's a moot point really mind, as Pope is proving to be a cracking singing, and is a level above most GK's

David Edgar
I'm happy to drag it out. Quick search and dug that out from one of Darlow's stints. He's had great spells in goal for us at the same level as Dubravka. People just don't like to remember and are clouded by his poor efforts last season. Dubravka far better than him last year, but overall they're similar when on their games.

Does anyone know how Southgate rates him? I'd start him over T-Rex I think. edit: David Edgar was already on it.
