Steve Bruce keen on players.

Theres no chance in hell Bruce will be choosing or negotiating any incoming player, he's the head coach.

The title given to Steve McClaren when he was also the donkey who had to stand by and try to figure out who to play where from Graham Carrs signings, and look what happened there.

What sort of player will Steve Bruce target?

In order to consider a good sample size, it seems wise to look at his two-seasons at Aston Villa prior to his dismissal in October of last season. Bruce signed over 20 players both as permanent transfers and on loan across his four windows in charge.

What initially stands out perusing through that group of recruited personal is that Bruce seems to favour experience and short term improvement as opposed to investing in youth and future prospects.

His recruitments across his two seasons in charge of Aston Villa had an average age of over 26.

This can be looked at in one of two ways. Firstly, on paper at least, these recruitments can be seen as less of a gamble in the sense that the players have already illustrated their qualities in a similar environment and as such will likely perform at the level expected of them.

However, on the other side of the coin, it can also prove to be a shortsighted and expensive approach that sees a constant need to rebuild an ageing squad on a yearly basis for large sums of money. This is simply because buying players in their peak often warrants a large transfer fee.

As was the case at Villa Park, funds are constricted at St James’ Park therefore it is unlikely Newcastle will be able to recruit players in the pomp of their career.

Instead, Bruce will likely target players on the decline who can still provide a service, even if it is no longer to the best of their ability.

Another staple of these experienced personal seems to be that they must have experience within England’s top two tiers - again most likely because they have already proven they can perform in a similar environment.

That article means fuck all. It's based on his signings at cash strapped championship clubs where funds were a lot more limited. Ashley's directive will mean Bruce will be looking at player of the diametric opposite suggested there. I mean, it doesn't take a degree in journalism to work that out.

Fucking hell :crylaughing:

Chronicle repeatedly reports Ashley model is to target under 26 with re-sale value. So Bruce is going to be fighting the system from day one then. Hero!

A bit worrying and what I thought would happen, glitz up the squad with a couple of spends and then leave the rest of the squad as is.

No intention to improve the strength of the team as a whole.
