I think Wood will get a few goals this season off the bench tbh

You also think that we're finishing in the top 4 and spending another £120m on forwards, so I'll take your opinions with a pinch of salt

I do however believe that Willock is going to have a big season for us.

If Willock could sort out his passing, he’d be a nailed on starter imo. Currently though he seems like a player more suited to counter-attacking play or as a decent impact sub.

Agree. Bruno's winning goal v Leicester highlighted both the good and bad of Willock. Bags of running, especially against already tired legs. And a good idea of what he actually needed to do, but still, he was lucky his cross deflected perfectly into Bruno's path. Could've gone anywhere after hitting the defender.

3 goalkeepers and then for each position you want cover for each position.

The defence is quite straight forward

Trippier/Krafth

Schär/Lascelles

Botman/Burn

Targett/Dummett (or Lewis)

Midfield is not so straight forward because each one is very different.

There’s essentially 2 replacements for 3 positions.

Bruno, Joelinton, Shelvey / Willock, Longstaff

Just get the feeling it’s square pegs in round holes in midfield, especially Willock.

Up front

ASM/Elliott

Wilson/Wood

Fraser/Almiron

etc

I’m on board with this thinking - and it highlights priorities well. *A* centre mid is essential, as is a starting RW and someone (preferably young) who can play RW and SC. Get those three players and 7th place should be the bar.

Really excited about this signing. Really excited for the future of the club. (on a side note I'm really happy not to hate the club and to wish nothing but bad upon us as I did only a year ago too)

Now I'm confident Paqueta and Diaby are in the clubs sights, along with a striker hopefully of similar quality. Whether we get them is a different matter but I have faith in the calibre of player we are trying, and managing in some cases, to attract.

I said I fancy us but would be happy with 7th, £120 million is probably only 3 or 4 players really isn't it. If the Ekiteke deal goes through that's 30-40 million acounted for already. Still 2 month left of the window? Be more surprised if we didn't spend 120 million than if we did.

Really exciting signing. Can't wait to see him in action. Will be interesting to see how our defence looks like after a few games. Can see arguments for playing him together with Schar, Burn & Lascelles.

It would be harsh on Schar too tbf  In terms of partnership I could see Howe at least trying him with Lascelles too as his strengths compliments Botman more than the others.

Someone else mentioned this the other day too, and it's a fair point.

If Howe really values Lascelles leadership and physicality. Then there is a chance that Botman may have been brought in as the ideal partner to cover for his deficiencies.

Be interesting to see how it plays out.

The thing about Schär is that he quite often gets wound up yet doesn’t quite have the physicality to mix it in certain games and he’s definitely been guilty of ball watching on a number of occasions that has led to goals.. but his distribution is the best of what we had. With Botman in, that won’t be as much of a factor.

If two left footed CB’s can work, just how formidable would Pope, Botman and Burn be?

I think there’s going to be games when Schär should play, for example against weaker teams where we’ll be having most of the possession.

But for the ones where we’re going to be up against it, I’d go with Burn every day. Going by quotes last season, attacking players hated playing against him.

Looking forward to seeing him play, hopefully he will be as big a flop as Bruno has been.

Not in the Dutch team yet, marra. Obviously godawful.

Bit harsh on Burn if he gets the instant bin, but I suppose it's cutthroat when you want to progress quickly.

I get the feeling Schar and Burn will still get plenty of first team action next season along with Sven. Lascelles is the one who will probably play significantly less games, but as an influential club player he might be prepared to stick around anyway.

Aye. If we spend £120mill on two forwards Wood isn't getting on the bench, never mind off it.

One is likely to fill the RW position and Wilson is quite injury prone still think Wood will play a part.

Ah, riighto. That makes a bit more sense. I'm backing Wood to get a few from the bench, if he gets the chance, but that does depend heavily on who we buy.
