Pish tonight and not for the first time. May need a spell on the bench.

Nah he needs to keep playing to find his form.  We all know there's a player there - I just hope he's not carrying an injury.

Why would Howe be playing him if he hasn’t fully recovered? He’s come back into a team lacking confidence and has been shite.

I’d like to see Lascelles back in but no way Howe is dropping anyone that already has so much credit in the bank.

I put a lot of his weaknesses down to Dubravka. Might sound ridiculous but the whole point of having a player like Botman is that you have a sweeper keeper, any slow player that's part of a high line will be exposed without one.

Having said that he was especially poor tonight.

Some of the local hacks reckon he hasn't really recovered from the injury he was out so long with, last year. Has Howe and the medical team brought him back too early?

It isn’t the first time he’s been done by an athletic forward, if Botman has a weakness it’s physical.. he’s not elite level quick or agile. Its not a massive problem but it will see him occasionally struggle against the more the physically gifted attacking players in this league.

Just waiting until the season ends and it's announced he's out for 4 month for an operation on his knee and he's been playing with ACL damage....or something. Another medical team failure

It’s not a medical team failure. He had a scan 2 weeks ago at the Dutch specialist that confirmed everything looks fine.

My personal opinion, and it’s just guesswork, is that he is playing within himself… tentative due to worry of it happening again. He’s had some really poor performances in the last few weeks, but you don’t become a poor player overnight for no reason.

No. My source on that is, well, as close to the horses mouth as you can get really. All his scans are absolutely fine.

i think it’s a mentality problem.

As well as being out for so long he has been jettisoned into a squad playing badly and lacking confidence. Our back 4 is getting zero protection - our midfield is none existent.

I'm sick of goals we have conceded by the ball going between his legs or worse him deflecting the ball into the net.  It's got to be at least six goals that were similar.  Oh, and he normally has his arms tucked nicely behind his back.  That fecking helped Sven.

I'm not holding it against Sven, but this does seem to be true for our whole back line.

I dunno, do we concede more than other teams between our defenders legs? I might just be noticing it because they're our players. Or is it a defensive technique issue?

If it's not fitness, then yeah I guess we have to really help him get his head straight. He seems like a lovely guy, but I've never really got the Robocop/Der Kaiser vibes off him - he seems like quite an introvert at heart. Not the first into a punch-up.

really casual play for the second goal. arms behind is back and just flicks his head at the ball.

ffs man, have your arms in a natural position and at least he'd have been able to get a more aggressive header in.

Aye he'd have taken the net off with his header if his arms were natural.

Was screaming for him to come off before the corner. Of course it him who then proceeds to jump to head the ball away and land on it again.

Love the players commitment to the cause but they need to be a bit smarter and get the trainers straight on when needed.

Fucking hell. Same knee, I take it?!

I know they have more data than us and a lot more expertise. They probably want a player of that age to avoid an op. But that is terrible management.

Could have been back and had a full pre-season. Now he’ll be back at the end of 2024 if we’re lucky and the need for a centre back has just got even greater.

Seemed like when he came back it was clearly still ailing him. So a strange call all round.
