Massive concerns if the Bakker deal has collapsed unless that’s because we’ve found someone better. That one was supposed to be straightforward.

Hopefully means we are in for Grimaldo he’d be a great signing. Think left back is a very much underrated position which needs improvement. Look at the difference with trippier on the other side...

Buckle up. This week will be likely madness and crank up day by day until deadline hits. Going to be a ton of misinformation.

Re: Bakker - It was weird "all we needed to do was agree terms". That is the opposite to all the other deals we have heard about. If we want him it is not going to be a problem about money. Guess it is possible he didn't want to join with the team where it is but that seems somewhat unlikely too. Either it's still on but we might have found something better, or it was BS to begin with.

Or possibly Howe has had a change of heart on the LB situation and would prefer to focus on other positions for now

Definitely.  I'd rather have CB, DM, CM, Striker, even RW in before a LB. Think we can do fine with Lewis, Manq, Dummett until season end if we really have to.

Can’t pretend to be disappointed about Bakker, never heard of him till the other day and was unsure as to why Leverkusen where willing to let him go relatively cheaply after only signing him in the summer.

Was probably just a back up to Gosens....

Newcastle United have launched a manic Monday of transfer business as they push for a positive end to their pursuit of Jesse Lingard while also opening talks over the loan signing of Dele Alli.

Newcastle have stepped up their efforts to land a clutch of new signings following their arrival in Saudi Arabia for a training camp and are pushing to bring in as many five players this week, on a mixture of permanent and loan deals.

Whether Newcastle sign both Alli and Lingard remains to be seen but there is growing confidence Lingard will arrive this week even though Manchester United are yet to formally accept their bid.

Lingard, who has flown to Dubai for his own warm weather training, just a short flight from where Newcastle are currently based in Saudi Arabia, is waiting to hear back from Manchester United’s board of directors to discover whether he can leave.

There is a growing expectation from the Newcastle end that a deal will be agreed, but that confidence has been misplaced before and Newcastle will move on to other targets if Manchester United continue to drag things out.

Sources within the Newcastle camp had even talked about the prospect of Lingard joining up with the squad on their winter training camp in Saudi Arabia, but there is no confirmation at this stage that he will be able to do so.

There is still some scepticism around Old Trafford that Manchester United will let him leave on loan although a source told Telegraph Sport on Monday that it was “looking more likely Jesse will be allowed to go because of the number involved.”

Manchester United have already rejected Newcastle’s first offer, but the second one will net them between £5-6m in a loan fee, with the Magpies also covering the cost of his £80,000-a-week wages.

Newcastle have also put out feelers to see whether Wales international Aaron Ramsey would like to sign for them this month and have been given a positive response from the player's camp, which means things could progress quickly over the next 72 hours.

Juventus are desperate to move the 31-year-old on and an injury to Joelinton has made the signing of a midfielder a far more pressing concern for the Newcastle hierarchy.

Newcastle are continuing to negotiate with Seville over the signing of Brazilian centre back Diego Carlos, but they will not be signing Holland Under-21 international Mitchel Bakker.

They had held talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a possible transfer but the deal collapsed on Monday, with a senior source insisting it will “definitely not happen.”

It is also believed that Newcastle have rekindled their interest in Burnley’s James Tarkowski, but have not yet tabled a bid for the 29-year-old.

Tarkwoski was one of the first names discussed by Newcastle’s new owners back in October but it was always felt Burnley would refuse to consider selling the defender, even though the player was told he could leave last summer if his valuation was met.

From Edwards ?

I just think there are quite a few "deals" which were either bollocks or not as close as the media led us to believe. Zapata, Gosens, Bakker, Ekitike etc.

We are clearly keen on Carlos and Botman before him. I'd wager that we have at least talked to Alli and Lingard.

My prediction is more PL based signings. More signings that will seem underwhelming on the face of it but will turn out decent.

Don't rule out Tarkowski IMO. Did anyone see the way Dyche reacted to the question?

These are all talented players, but Ramsey is not the answer sorry. A beast in the middle would transform this team. Getting Lingard and Tarkowski is good but the defence got to get protection. For all the Joelinton and Shelvey having good games lately, legs in the middle should be highest on the agenda.

I saw an account on twitter said that Man u is interested in Kamara, would be disappointing if true but I've got a feeling he's holding out till the summer anyway.

Man U, West Ham, Real, Barca…
