At his age players don't go from club captain to 4th choice and stay at a club. Also can't see Murphy and Almiron both being at the club. Nine Posted April 27, 2022 Share Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) Gayle has been almost physically finished since those back to back hamstring injuries he suffered under Rafa, he did manage that one good season with West Brom after but those injuries + his age seemed to have taken their toll now. But that is likely why we'd be able to get him somewhat easily at this stage, and so we'd have to determine if he can still be effective right now, while we then continue to develop him further. He has an incredible set of tools for the premier league and I think in the right situation, with a manager like ours, he could turn into a terror of a striker. He's not the most likeable person in the squad (from our point of view) but I think it's pretty clear that he's been instrumental in fostering a certain culture in the dressing room over the years. By all accounts he's still the leader and he'll be an important character to help transition into what we're going to become. Evolution not revolution! Darlow, Lascelles, Hayden, Shelvey, Ritchie, Gayle were all good players for the club a the time, but it's time to move forward.
