Not sure about that, if Botman came in I could see us being competent enough to play 3 at the back with advanced wing backs. Botman in the middle and Burn out left which is probably his best position.

If we knew this move was probable it could also explain why the manager would favour Lodi over Targett.

This doesn’t sound like a Howe tactic.

But he was watching A Madrid in his time off who used Trippier and Lodi with three CB

A Madrid play a 4-4-2 tactic not 3 at the back.

They last played 4-4-2 exclusively in 2019/20. They've used three CBs in more than 50% of their games since.

I like the idea of being able to switch between 3 at the back and 4 at the back, do wonder if that is something Howe wants to be able to do as Targett seems like such an obvious signing otherwise.

Does Diaby replace ASM ?

I wondered this but according to Transfermarkt he's played as much on the right as on the left recently so I don't think he'd be a replacement.

ASM, Diaby & Wilson as a front three would be explosive ?

The article also states we are interested in Ake and Kelly as back up to Botman.

If Botman doesn't come off? Rather than signing them as well?

Yeah Howe still wants a ball play left footed CB, Botman number one target and if he doesn’t come then Ake is next on the list.

"Nickson first proposed Botman and, while Howe has also been impressed by the reports, the head coach has alternative targets, including some domestic ones. Nathan Ake (now of Manchester City) and Lloyd Kelly, both of whom Howe signed for Bournemouth, were mentioned during meetings in January and they would be viewed as ideal recruits, although their fees may prove prohibitive."
