Have we?

what players that require a bit of development have we been linked too?

Not one for the development squad basically but someone in the first team squad. The last top class one was Hall, closest thing since has been Osula. All of our major links have been with established players. When we first wanted Etikite he only played 26 Ligue 1 games. Barely played in the B team prior. The least established player we are after is Trafford who has 2 seasons at a high level as the main GK. Could argue for 3.

I mention it because it's slightly cheaper as it's a bigger gamble. 2022 20-year-old Etikite is what £30m now? Come back at 23 he's worth £70m.

Quite a specific set of requirements you have.

1. We haven't signed anyone in 2 years because of PSR.

2. Who we are linked to in the press is not necessarily reflective of reality.

3. In our last real window we signed Tino and Hall.

4. We've signed Minteh, Kuol, this Spanish kid and some Asian lad is on his way.

5. We've been linked with numerous players who are young.

I think what you are saying is, why aren't we going after cheap young foreign players with big potential? And there's loads of good reasons.

They dont grow on trees.

They are highly in demand.

They aren't always cheap.

With young players there is more risk attached.

With foreign players there is more risk attached.

...

And we might have a set requirements, for example we might specifically want players who are good to go in the PL and that dont need so much development.

We were also linked with Guler not so long ago.

In fairness to TCD, what hes asking is can't we find young exciting talent in the 20/30m bracket before their value doubles but its incredibly difficult and there's nothing to say we wouldn't move on a player like that if we could.

Your last point seems to be true.

That's very expensive while we need a minimum of 4 players imo. Probably 5.

The backup striker, possibly the CM or GK could be a kid or a hard nosed vet for a short period.

My gut feeling is that Howe doesn't trust kids and he needs results to keep his job.

Plenty of time in the window left - we'll see.

One point you made a few weeks ago, which i entirely agree with, is being flexible and not being afraid of signing a Jorginho typed stop gap. I'd suggested Norgaard and im gutted Arsenal snapped him up.

Short term signings like that can actually save us money for a time and allow us to invest in the long term.

I dont think Howe likes having players who come and go regularly though and I understand it.

Had not seen that. Seems half the league wants him - literally.

Yeah which kind of speaks to my point. There are very few hidden gems. Even when we went after Ekitike the first time, PSG were in his ear.

Do you want to buy a house in a Tynemouth, an established middle class area, with low levels of crime and a relatively stable, but expensive housing market

Or do you want to buy a house in North Shields, which is near to Tynemouth but you can get property relatively cheaply and prices are rising quickly, however, there's a genuine risk that you might end up living next to a crack den

Why have we stopped pursuing the profile of young player Etikite was 3 seasons back?

If we signed someone of Ekitike's 2022 profile now, he finds himself in the position Ekitike was when he joined PSG (limited games, etc) and has to leave to get first-team football anyway? So we don't really see the benefit. No doubt just being around the likes of Messi, Mbappe & Neymar would have rubbed off on him, but he probably doesn't flourish the same way he has if he's only getting 15-20 games a season.

Yes, longstaff out norgaard in would have been clever squad management in my view, although perhaps he likes being in London and going to kids parties with joao pedro

You spend all of your time tooting rock next door so don't spend any time living in the house you're paying a mortgage on

So you're saying we should just loan Rashford?
