I’m all in for spunking out transfer budget on a backup who is still very much in the ‘unproven and a potential knacker’ camp.

Big clubs, with big ambitions who want to compete on multiple fronts dont have "back ups", they have squads with depth in quality.

We really need to shake off this idea of having 11 good players and then "back ups". We need 15/16 really quality players.

However, to the point you were really getting at... do we spend 60m on a player who is in a position that isnt a priority? And would that player come knowing that they would likely spend time in and out of the starting 11?

It doesn't seem likely, especially when we could likely get our number one CB target for 40m.

I politely disagree. I wouldn't use the international caps as a benchmark. He might just be a cunt, which is the most concerning thing, because he's clearly talented

No he isnt PSG flop when they were shit..3 goals 🤣

Agreed we absolutely need squad depth and competition for all positions - I’m just not sure we have the budget to chuck at these sorts of signings.  To me, you’d want to get better than what you have in other positions, putting the onus on current players to step up yet another level.

CF is a nightmare position for us to sign in at present, given who we have in there.  Most top clubs don’t have two CFs of near similar quality to each other.

Where does the attitude thing even come from - because he decided to go to PSG over us? It seems an entirely invented thing amongst our fanbase from innocent and unrelated social media posts.

Both Eddie and Ekitike have spoken about the potential move - that we were made a good offer, he considered it it, but ultimately opted elsewhere and there was no hard feelings from either side.

He made a poor career choice signing for PSG, but completely understandable as a young French man. He wasn't going to get much game time.

He's a good young talent.

No, because he also acted like an arse at PSG

I think it's more to do with his accent when speaking English?

It was because him and his agent were perceived to take the piss out of our initial interest on social media

He's a striker but theres got to be a way Howe can add him in the starting eleven. Im not a tactic expert but maybe a shadow striker in a 4231.. Gordon, Isak, Ekitike and Elanga would be fantastic

Yeah which was a load of bollocks. It almost certainly had absolutely nothing to do with us.

We were willing to pay 55 mill for JP. Is an extra 15 mill that much more for a player with a superior goal scoring record. But he would have to start with Isak.

Aye, same applies when thinking about the fact that Brentford are quoting £50m for Wissa, who is good and proven in the PL but almost 29.

I think any chance of signing Ekitike went when we first tried to sign him, but tbf Howe tends to back his own judgement on a player, and he clearly rated him.

Bit like Sean Payton in the NFL. He still dwells on players that got away 18 years ago.
