The tackle is just one of those things - no malice, mistimed; if it's a split second earlier his foot just catches their player's toe at worst.

Not going to berate him for it, or the niggly fouls before that. If you take away the aggressive side of his game, you kill him as a midfielder.

And that's all there's to that tackle. Deserved the red. Was absolutely instrumental to us winning the game in the first half.

Only saw the replay on the big screen, did he mean it or just get unlucky?

Neither. Just a shite, dangerous challenge.

Also what makes him so good. Fights for every challenge.

Lack of game for 3 weeks will be a kicker for match sharpness aswell. Assume he can play in behind closed doors games for fitness maybe.

But maybe a positive in that he gets a break after the world cup restart. Long term that might help towards the end of the season.

Could paradoxically be good for us given that the first games are against relatively weak opposition.

Will force Howe to return Joelinton to midfield and play ASM (or Gordon) in the front three. If Gordon doesn’t start expedite his inclusion as a 60 minute sub for Miggy— more like for like than Murphy. Once Howe has broken up the starting 11 maybe he’ll be more willing to start Isak. Wilson’s hold up play would be useful later in the game.  The main thing for me is getting ASM and Isak sharp, and integrating Gordon as quickly as possible.

Seemed to lose composure after not being given the foul when he picked the ball up, but I don't think the red-card foul was linked to that. Was sort of like the Mitrovic one v Arsenal when he first arrived. Think it was a genuine attempt to win the ball, was just mistimed and dangerous as a result.
