Does he lose the coin toss every home game now or is it his or the team's preference that we attack the Gallowgate in the 1st half of games now?

That is all league games now we have attacked that end in the 1st half. Only against Wimbledon and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup have we attacked the Gallowgate in the 2nd half.

Fair assumption as he lost both coin tosses in the Forest penalty shootout.

Glute problem, being assessed. I’d imagine he’ll be ok.

Nice one. Cheers.

Not sure if he had it pre-game. But he looked even slower than usual. Still some of his usual quality moments on the ball, mind.

Bruno has been generally very poor since becoming captain. Eddie made a big mistake making him captain IMO and needs to take it off him but how that will go down I have no Idea. On present form we would be better selling him for big money which is such a shame. The armband has changed the way he plays and he needs to revert

Yes I don’t think the captain role has worked for him at all.

Respectfully couldn’t disagree more.

It’s helped his discipline massively and he is starting to clearly mature more. He is the beating heart of the team and first to congratulate / support all other players.

It’s his first captains role so he is still learning it but his poor (at times) performances are more down to playing non stop for 2 years than captaining a team who he clearly loves.

On a different point I’m not even sure anyone else you would give it to. Tripps who wants to leave, the geordies who aren’t in our best team and already have the crowd on their back. Schar perhaps but not exactly long term planning. Big Jo a maniac.

No issue him being captain for me, however does need a rest and you’d think with 5/6 centre mids we could achieve that.

agree - personally I think the whole 'he doesn't work as captain' thing is just looking for explanations for why things aren't always working. Everything would have been exactly the same no matter who was captain.

His issues have nothing to do with captaincy, his strength is also a weakness. He brings us time on the ball and often plays his way out of trouble. But his mate Paqueta knows he can get caught in possession and was on him in a flash, using his pace to close him down really quickly. I guess that's something you just have to accept as part of his game.

The idea he couldn’t feature for Man City when Kovacic so often does, it’s not for me, Bruno had a poor game, it happens, he is still a fantastic player who we would expect a fortune for if he was sold.

I don’t have any issues with him as Captain either

Highest % of forward passes in the league if I remember correctly. I think it’s what’s in front of him that’s been the problem

He has been below par this season. But I don’t think he’s been as bad as people have made out.

He was dreadful yesterday, mind. Most of his forward passes seemed like they were straight to a Palace player. When it wasn’t even a hard ball to play. Especially for someone as good as him.

Like the rest of our team. He seemed to panic and struggle with his attacking passes. Moving him further forward didn’t help us yesterday. Even though Tonali was our best player by a country mile in the deeper role. His lack of mobility certainly stood out on the right. Perhaps why Howe has been so reluctant to play him there in this system?

our record without him is awful and shows his importance to the team, so by the same measure it makes sense that our performances are poor when he’s playing badly. Needs to buck his ideas up tbh, he’s supposed to be the leader of the team now.

I said it at the time but I think the whole captaincy thing in the summer was a mess and not something I’d expect to see at a top or well run club. I’m not really convinced he has the captain mentality but aside from that I don’t think it’s helped Bruno, and it’s certainly not helped Trippier or the rest of the team. Trippier and Lascelles’ contracts are up at the end of the season, it would’ve been so much better and more natural to have just made the leadership changes then. Can only speculate but the forced nature of it comes across like it was a stipulation of his contract talks.

Does anybody on here watch him regularly for Brazil? I know @Flip used to keep us updated but I don't recall seeing him post much these days.

Just wondering if he's as popular with Brazil fans as he is at Newcastle. I know they didn't rate Joelinton much as a midfielder after a couple of sloppy performances.

Can’t see any way they promised him the captaincy just for his contract. They might have thought Trippier was on the way out and we needed a passionate captain who loves the club and plays every game.

If they thought Trippier was on his away out in the summer then just… promote Bruno after he’s gone?

And even if not, just let Bruno be the third choice captain after Lascelles and Trippier. I think that’s what I’d expect any club to do normally. It just seemed like a really weird thing to do and I’ve never seen it before apart from when a club’s changed manager or something.

I don’t think he’s that famous in Brazil, but don’t know about dedicated national team fans.

He plays for their national side doesn't he? I would think he's pretty famous then.

Definitely not as popular as he’s been for Newcastle. Quite criticized lately tbh. He’s been quite hit and miss for the national team. I expected more from him, not sure he has developed much lately and seems to have the same errors in him as he had two-three years ago.
