If you go back to the start of the season our back four had three players over 30, a pair of centre backs that cost a combined 11m, and two wingers as fullbacks. It wasn't like we were particularly ruined by injuries either. Lewis was the most expensive defender we'd bought since coming up. He was also the only defensive player we'd spent above £10m on. At any level of football, CB is a crucial position in the sense that you can't afford to be weak there, and he added so much in terms of composure, intelligence and strength.
