Dan Burn

If you really think about it, being tall doesn't mean you're good in the air, it just means you have an advantage. Peter Crouch was pretty similar imo, much better when you played it into his feet.

Likewise the whole 'good touch for a big man' thing shouldn't still be going on imo, I've known so many fatties who are silky as fuck.

His timing for heading the ball looks wrong; you’d think it could be coached into him. He hasn’t a lot of spring and he doesn’t hang in the air making timing everything for him. There was a far post header in the 2nd half where he jumped far too early and headed the ball on his way down.

it’s a reason why he (and Wood is also guilty) doesn’t generate much power when they have to jump to head the ball.  He’s got huge thighs on him and he struggles to get off the ground.

I've emailed the club offering to take Big Dan Burn down to the Bigg Market so he can just spark some fools at kicking out time, hopefully this will rebalance his chi.

I don’t think you can coach timing to be honest, you can instruct/coach when to stand off, go for the ball etc., but timing is a natural instinct. The key is to trust instructions and do what is being coached into you, i.e when to stand off and when to go, get tight, jockey, back off. He does that well enough for me. He was in Blakelaw last night I think for some reason and by all accounts he was brilliant with people, him and his family.

It’s the timing of his jumps that’s amiss. He can volley a ball, head and direct it from a standing position but once once he has to jump there’s little control.

They must do training drills and take videos, they could also get a specialised coach in. There’s no doubt natural ability helps but he has timing in other areas. I do think it’s an area we could look in his game and break it down in a “scientific” way to help him understand what’s going on. What’s Fab doing these days?

Mad that none of us have really brought up Burn or Schar because we're already so used to them being dependable. Thought all 4 of them defended really well as a unit, but Burn and Schar deserve more credit than they've been getting.

He had a two or three attempts at long passes that went straight into the crowd under little/no pressure which looked awfully bad. Besides those, his passer were ok as far as I can remember.

I thought Schar or Targett were MOTM right at the final whistle. Looking back, it could have been Krafth or Burn, as well.

Not seen a functioning back 4 like this since. Well I don’t actually know?! We were solid at time under Pardew. But there seemed to be more limitations with Simpson and Williamson playing a lot. Rafa usually had a back 3 or 5 when we were the most defensively sound.

He needs to cut out the try too hard, lose your head moments, I get it because he’s a Geordie and wants to go for everything, but sometimes it’s ok to back of and jockey. Other than that he was dominant yesterday.

Just seen his Sky Sports thing he did with Ryan Fraser. Seems an absolutely top top bloke. Would be a fantastic mentor to younger players.

The two of them come across really well and seem like top lads.
