GeordieDazzler
26 minutes ago, Yorkie said: It was maddening watching it on the tele cos the only replays were of the potential offside on Bruno (of which there clearly was none), so it was like, wtf are they waiting for? Only afterwards did they show the potential Lascelles handball, which is presumably what was causing the bulk of the delay. I thought the handball was immaterial as it wasn’t called by the ref and Lascelles didn’t ultimately score the goal? Like the Gordon handball vs Sheff United - unless the rules are different in the CL?

madras
Nearly scored two, had Bowen in his pocket and should have an assist to his name. He was all right I suppose.

Interpolic
Class news, that. Hadn't realised his contract end was imminent. Whatever you think about his abilities on the ball, he's clearly a good defender and a brilliant character at the club. Us being more than the sum of our parts last season was due to a whole load of intangibles like that. Ideally I'd like to see him as more of a squad player eventually but we should keep him in the squad as long as we can. And very happy for him living his dream like this when he probably never thought it was possible.
Gallowgate Toon
I love him as a character, like. Easily one of the most likeable players we've ever had and helps to preserve the DNA of the club.

Mazzy
Really good news. Players like Dummett and Ritchie will probably be leaving next summer so we'll need the Burns and Lascelles to stick around another year or two to give some consistency and leadership in this squad. TBG
Lascelles, Joelinton & Dummett next please.
Super Duper Branko Strupar
Money that could be spent on new signings. Are these owners actually serious about us winning the league? Yorkie
Great stuff. I fucking love him; he's a brilliantly positive symbol of what we are these days. We're not a Saudi toy, we're Newcastle United, and Dan Burn is as Newcastle United as it gets.

As long as it’s a horizontal launch and not vertical take off he’s good! ? ⚽️ ? Edited October 13, 2023 by PauloGeordio
bowlingcrofty
Good for FFP and amortisation, these new contracts: Quote Contract extensions Amortisation is the registration fee spread over the contract period, so if you extend the contract you reduce the annual cost. Example: Sign a player for £20m on 1 January 2019 on a four year contract. At the end of 2019 give him a two year contract extension. Amortisation charge in 2019 = £5m (£20m/4) Amortisation charge 2020 onwards £3m ((20-5m)/(3+2)) This reduces FFP losses by £2m a year. Therefore by extending a contract a club can reduce costs in a single year. https://priceoffootball.com/football-transfers-and-creative-accounting-protect-me-from-what-i-want/

Not really, it was always about having a young kid with big future potential. That said, it's true it doesn't seem like he's had a rip-roaring start to his time here. Can't argue with this extension, Burn seems to only be getting better with age. He's got his limitations but taking the whole package into account he's not that easy to replace. Matt1892
The photos of this were released a month or so back I think so I’m not sure what the delay in announcing was. Happy for him even if I do think it is a position we need to upgrade, it is a squad game and he deserves his place in the squad. I also think he has a legitimate claim to a spot in the England squad at left back and it is a failure on Southgate’s part for not calling him up. Gallowgate Toon
His upgrade is already here. Second half of the season, we'll be talking about how much of a BALLER (the certified kind) Hall is.
