It's undoubtedly a statement win however you look at it. To go to Chelsea, fall behind early and still come away with 3 points is an excellent result. They've started the season really well - benefitting from a very favourable fixture list it has to be said, but they've got points on the board and are playing with confidence as a result. Lowest they'll finish now is probably about 15th, fair play

Yea surely nailed on to stay up, they’ll be eagerly anticipating the derby now. We’ll have to be on it to go there and win but I’m confident with our midfield and the players we have.

As I've said, I'm OK with the 3 promoted teams staying up. It's for the greater good.

Also I detest Chelsea more than Sunderland.

What is wrong with you?

A very good performance and result for them but that’s the worst performance I’ve seen from Chelsea since they started buying success. Completely toothless and without ideas in attack - still wouldn’t have scored if the game was still playing. Maresca should be concerned.

Chelsea dropping points is good for NUFC.

That it is, but I want the scum to go down again. There's no benefit for us having to play them every season. If we win - everything is as it should be, if they win we never hear the end of it.

I didn't want them to come up and would be delighted to see the back of the them, but NUFC's interests come above all else.

Doesn't seem improbable that both teams could be floating around a tight knit 6-9th next year. That most important achievement in all of football, the NETD, could do down to the wire :cheesy:

We're obviously miles better in terms of quality, but fighting on four fronts with very little rest/preparation/training time takes it's toll.

Sometimes if you make the oppo play shit its because of what you do.

Remember Eddie's first full season when RTG was adamant we were only doing well because everyone we played didn't turn up on the day ?

I'd be amazed if they come top half.

Yes - you’ve got a point and Sunlun played a low block but Chelsea’s passing was ultra negative and non progressive all game.

You’d expect a hell of a lot more from a team that was playing so well at the start of the season.

They can have a good season but they will find their rightful place eventually, look at Leeds the other season, Sheffield United, best they can hope for is to become a crystal Palace, Fulham or Brentford. Look at Bournemouth, Brighton over previous seasons, come the end of the season the cream always rises to the top and we are cream now. Business end is at the back.

End of October update re how their season compares to previous PL seasons.

No surprise, really. Phenomenal start continues. Three points ahead of their best ever season (7th  on 58 points 1999-00). Incredibly unlikely to be relegated at first time of asking. Not sure how ahead of the predicted points total they are (taking into account strength of opposition and whether home or away etc) but suffice to say they're doing much better than most expected. They still need 12 points between now and end of December (10 games) to keep on track for best ever finish.
