Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of a high-profile pre-season friendly against Everton in Edinburgh this summer, according to The Chronicle. While still in the early stages of negotiation, the match would be hosted at Murrayfield Stadium, which boasts a capacity of 67,144.

Given the short distance and large ticket allocation, the fixture would be expected to be a major draw for fans.

Are we doing a test run for something else here…

Man Utd have played there a couple of times recently.

That was my first thought too. Wouldn’t mind if we did play there a couple of seasons. Midweek games maybe not as much fun!

Do you think the club will subsidise travel?

Nice indicator that our financial situation is very sound too

More headroom for the king. Things you love to see.

Champion that. Hopefully a friendly at the Pinatar Arena too as my folks only live round the corner and La Manga is only down the road.

Any word on when they're heading to La Manga?

Said he wasn't sure but just that it was after that date of the 13th, which is when the players return.

Teams tend to do a week at their training ground before jetting off to training camps so I'd be guessing around 20th.

Great stuff, finally maybe a realisation that the best way to attract worldwide support and increase revenue is by performing in the PL and European competition, not doing daft far-flung pre-season tours that are potentially detrimental to competitive performance.

We were pretty much the away team when we played Arsenal & Spurs in pre-season. Definitely think we still need to do these sorts of trips but not every year.
