Maybe just a blanket rule to not pass it to him if he's under kind of pressure. Better off just punting it down the line and hoping for the best.

We need a new keeper, he made 2 or 3 cracking saves, saves I think Ramsdale would have struggled with. Ball at feet however, dear me, he’s getting worse. I’m tempted to let him off with the one Hall belted back at him.

His pitch and wedge goal kicks are the worst. We may as well just restart with Brighton having the ball on the halfway line.

We’ve got many problems, but the goalkeeper situation is the worst by far. Nowt worse than having a dodgy keeper - it creates anxiety throughout the whole team.

I reckon at least 10 points lost this season because of goalkeepers… which completely would have changed the feel

of our season.

Maybe I missed bits when I lost connection but apart from that dodgy touch when Hall played it back to him I thought he played well in terms of saves and cross claims.

Sad to see his decline though, his 22/23 was up there as the best I've seen from a Newcastle 'keeper and it's really only this season that I think the decline has been really noticeable. Saying that, I'd still have him over Ramsdale every day of the week.

His game with his hands was good but he also had the one where he kicked it off Hinshelwood which fortunately hit the post

Then there were half a dozen kicks which went absolutely nowhere useful

I prefer him over Ramsdale. In the same way I prefer chlamydia over ebola.

If this guy is still in contention for a starting place by 1 Sep 26 then it's borderline negligence from the club.

Starting to think he's been one of the worst keepers I've seen between our sticks for a very long time - though for many years we were spoilt for having a very strong amount of strength, cover and youth in that position.

Maybe showing my age. But when have we been spoilt with keepers?

Easily the worst player that have played for us this season. Even discounting his howlers, the amount of pressure his ineptitude brings upon us by gifting the opposing team the ball back far outweighs his occasional "good game" when he makes one decent save the other 19 PL keepers would have made too. Ramsdale should play the remaining games this season, neither should be anywhere near the club after the summer.

Easily the worse player? 39 of our points have come when popes been playing and 6 when ramsdale.

I just can't understand how a professional footballer in the PREMIER LEAGUE can kick a ball like him.

I mean it's simple stuff, hit it high, with power, and keep it inside the massive fucking green thing in front of you.

Pavel Srnicek and Shaka Hislop, then later on Shay Given and Steve Harper. Tim Krul, Fraser Forster, Freddie Woodman all youngsters around the same time.

The weird thing about today is he was very poor but equally I left the game thinking he was our best keeper. Cost us one goal, narrowly avoided disaster on another but then made two or three incredible saves that I'm not sure Ramsdale makes. No way he's #1 next season but I think he's the best of a bad bunch for the rest of the season.

Two mistakes with his kicking which we got away with, but I thought he was great at claiming the ball and made some great saves.

If you think that has anything to do with Pope he must be the best GK in the world in your mind.

Lack of a brain as well. Even if your licking is poor, you’d start kicking it in a different direction. He constantly goes to kick it towards the touchline.

And the ugly. Great stand off, luckily in our favour 🤠

We lose or draw that game with Ramsdale between the sticks, Popes kicking is a joke now, invites so much unwarranted pressure on the team, you know when hes on the ball its going back to the opposition either by means of a throw in or directly on their head. Having said that he did really well on crosses and made some important reactive saves. At the very worst he needs to be number 2 next season though.

Krul was quality for a couple of seasons. Never the same after his injury.

Given is widely considered as our best keeper in modern history. So that’s fair. Harper was decent as cover but wasn’r starting quality.

Forster and Woodman never did much for us or elsewhere. They better than Pope?

Not fully old enough to remember Pav or Shaka. But better than Pope?

I know he has his clown show moments and he has become a liability. But to call Pope one of the worst keepers you have seen for us is a wild take IMO. He looked like the best we’ve had in the Prem era his first season and a half before the shoulder injury.
