Hanshithispantz
He's worth more than 50m like, you'd hope we can get him cheaper given the situation but Leicester are completely within their rights to try and get something remotely close to his actual value. Jaqen
We paid £45m for Gordon from Everton's bench. £50m for someone in their prime and who's consistently been one of the best attacking midfielders in the league for years isn't outrageous, like. Obviously different circumstances just don't think we were ever going to get him as cheap as some hope.

We considerably overpaid for Gordon, so not the best idea to use him as your yardstick for player valuations.
Guest
£50m when he's an England international, has the output he does and there's interest from elsewhere is reasonable despite the contract situation for me. Just get it done. It'd cost more than that to sign someone guaranteed to be better than him. Edited June 20, 2023 by Optimistic Nut

The Prophet
Maddison + Has consistently scored and created goals in the Premier League + Tactically flexible + Reasonable price tag - Question marks about his work off the ball Szoboszlai + Similar output to Maddison + Another big, athletic player + Tactically flexible + A workhorse off the ball + Younger - Only played in defensively inferior leagues - Currently coached to RB standards - Expensive Szoboszlai might have a higher potential ceiling, but it's a lot of cash to gamble with when you can buy what is near enough a sure thing in Maddison for less cash. And they can't offer European football. I think standing firm is the way to go if Leicester think his value is £60m or even £50m because it is simply not and they will need time to find a replacement. McDog
I would imagine Leicester hope to get a bidding war between Spurs and Newcastle but it seems like they are not exactly in a position on strength. Assuming neither Spurs or Mags do something daft, the price has to come down and he'll have to choose.
Conjo
Shiny object syndrome > this is fine syndrome
The Prophet
Maddison got 10 goals and 9 assists in a relegated side. Last season it was 12 goals and 8 assists. These are basically Odegaard/Fernandes numbers for a much worse team. "Fine" and the "bare minimum" though. If it isn't shiny object syndrome, it must be snobbery towards English players. Jaqen
I do doubt how many average NUFC fans have watched enough Hungary and Red Bull games mind to make an accurate judgement on who'd be better. Even when there was massive outrage for Southgate not playing Sancho for England it was obvious most fans had no idea even what sort of player he was. Conjo
Buying Maddison instead of Szoboslai is like if we had bought Zaha instead of isak last summer. A bit cheaper but with consistent numbers in the PL at the expense of a potentially higher ceiling.
Hanshithispantz
Zaha is like 30 though and Maddison is better than him. Maddison is arguably better than Bruno and Isak (atm). Edited June 20, 2023 by Hanshithispantz

But there was clear gulf in class between Zaha and Isak that doesn't yet exist between Maddison and Szoboszlai. I'd be happy with either for what it's worth, but taking account of price and experience it's a no brainer in our position. I just don't understand the talking down of Maddison when he's produced in the Premier League on a consistent basis for a few seasons now.

Based on how well liked Lodi is with Forest fans and how much they want him to stay but fear losing him to a CL team, you sure it's right to do that comparison? Mendy & Pope were both playing in the PL before the start of this season.

LFEE
Just now, The Prophet said: I know he's missed a few games this season. Is it persistent? 2 or more knee problems this season iirc so slightly concerning. Watched a bit of the Slob tonight but nothing to report really. Kept it relatively simple most of the time. He’s clearly more of an athlete. Surprised he’s the international captain now. Looks more two footed than Maddison but predominantly right. Was surprised also he played most of what I watched on the left wing.
