The College Dropout
Dummett Longstaff Gillespie Anderson Thats our 4. In a 25 man European squad we could then register 21 non Newcastle HG players. We could bring back Forster or Krul so we have 2HG GKs.
The Prophet
Can see Dummet staying on in another capacity. He's very well liked around the club.

Dokko
Cant whinge about player wages and lack of depth, then keep players like Ritchie & dummett on the books as expensive cheerleaders. Either get them in as coaches eith8nt he youth setup, or do what we should have done several years ago and let them go.
Nine
If it was feasible to replace the likes of Dummett and Ritchies positions within our transfer outlay in the short/mid term then they wouldn’t get extensions. We obviously have other priorities to fill first.

Nine
Yeah, he’s clearly not in the squad to play at this point. With Burn staying as fit as he has and Targett back we shouldn’t see him get minutes. Edited March 31, 2023 by Nine

The College Dropout
Burn is a better player. Particularly on the ball. But Dummett was much better 1v1.

Not sure if it will be 100% accurate, but I thought Gillespie was HG too but on my FM save he was classed as HG at Carlisle so I had to leave a space. It's all he had (and even then he wasn't that great at it). Your average Championship/League 1 full-back can defend play in one on one situations but can't do much else. Wasn't on the books for NUFC at all between 16 and 21. Anderson wouldn't be named until the following season - but obviously you would be able to play him anyway so makes no practical difference. Krul and Forster would be a reasonable move however if Karius was to leave this summer. Edited March 31, 2023 by ponsaelius

STM
It's a non issue. Dummett hasn't played this year, if we extend his contract it's for the purposes of having "institutional" men around the squad. I've no doubt that Dummett is already working towards finding a backroom role within the club or even somewhere like Gateshead. He won't play next year unless we have a major crisis. SteV
Keeping Dummett around could be something like the U21 player/coach role that Huddlestone and Spearing have at Man U and Liverpool?
christ
There’s loads of reasons why a manager might want to keep an older pro like Dummett around the club for a while longer. No idea why people’s heads fall off when it gets mentioned. Was the same a few months ago when they were talking about Ritchie getting an extension. There’s an almost childlike understanding of how the real world works.

There’s an almost childlike understanding of how the real world works. We struggled to get shot of the likes of Clark, Gayle, Hendrick, Hayden. Chances are we're paying the majority of a large contribution towards their wages. We got lucky as owt that Forest came along and took Wood and Shelvey from us. We should be winding down these sorts of contracts to free up squad places rather than renewing deadwood when we're still increasing quality. On a nominal wage in the U23 role like some clubs have adopted but not in the first-team squad then great.
