Now That's What I Call Transfer Rumours! 7

I'd get Manu Kone for half the price of Rice as much as I really want us to sign Rice. You could use the other ~40m on a top class LB or winger.

People love selling Maxi in their fantasies. Maxi will be here longer than Almiron.

I can guarantee you my fantasies do not involve the buying and selling of football players, let alone Maxi [emoji38]

Either way the point stands. Maxi is a sellable asset that I can envisage us being willing to let go if we need to claw some money back and if the price is right (price tbd).

Most of the others either won't command a decent fee (Richie et al) or are unsellable (Bruno, Botman etc) or are too handy too keep around (eg Longstaff, Burn, Murphy for the homegrown quota).

The only issue with Maxi is that he's one of our few sellable assets. If the plan is to top up the kitty with sales then a £20-25m offer from abroad might tempt us.

Thats way to low when you see average players like Cucurella going for 60 and Wood for 15. For all his faults Maximin is a no go for everything under 40.

Throw the cheque book at Alphonso Davies

You’re talking a record (defender) fee for him, I reckon. Plus he’s on £180kpw currently, with another three years left (not to mention at a multiple title/cup winning team). Bayern are in talks to extend and raise his current contract, supposedly. He’d be perfect, but next to zero chance at the moment.

Does anyone know outright what we get from Champs league just for group stage?

That plus 30m front of shirt deal should see us cooking with gas.

How much does the 2022/23 winner receive?

A breakdown of the prize money available to the winner is as follows:

All 32 clubs to qualify for the group stages receive a base payment of €15.64m (£13.48m).

Group stage wins are worth an additional €2.8m (£2.4m), with draws earning clubs €930,000 (£802,000).

Reaching the round of 16 earns an additional €9.6m (£8.2m)

Quarter-finalists make €10.6m (£9.1m)

Semi-finalists make €12.5m (£10.7m)

And the finalists receive €15.5m (£13.3m) with €4.5m (£3.8m) for the champions

As a result, the champions will receive €68.34m (£58.99m), but if they also win all six of their group matches, then they will receive a combined total of €85.14m (£73.49m) in prize money, before coefficient shares and market pool funds come into play.

If we do qualify for CL there’ll be absolute fume from the rest of the league when we whack out our new sponsorship deal in the summer ?

We’re not getting Rice. If they go down I’d be all over Bowen and Paqueta. Paqueta is still getting used to the league, he’s not being played where he’d want, he’s far bigger and robust than I’d realised and Eddie would get him fit. He’d thrive up here.

Probably not the right thread for this but how impressive is it that our three "marquee" signings so far in Bruno, Botman and Isak are three of the best options in their positions in the league, right down the spine of our team. Be impressive if we manage the same in the summer

Our business has been incredible hasn't it.

It's wild.

Also a lot of the players we thought were crap are good now.

Eddie Howe is using cheat codes.

A million pounds for every draw. We’re going to be loaded.

This summer is going to be huge for us and whatever level of European competition we get in I think we need to strengthen in 6 areas:

1) The first key area for strengthening the first team depends on where you play Bruno. Longstaff has done a great job but to improve we need someone in that RCM role with a similar physicality but who is technically superior and can allow us to create more. Bruno could play there but then you’d have to replace him in the 6 role.

If we go the way of signing an 8 Milenkovic-Savic of Lazio would be an ideal signing with all the physical gifts as well as being technically excellent.

If we go looking for a 6 Rice is most of our dream signing for this but I just don’t think he’s a realistic target even if we get champions league.
I had a favourite for this position  a player called Nicolas Seiwald an Austrian player from RB Salzburg but unfortunately they’ve swapped him to RB Leipzig so he won’t be on the market again for a bit.

So that leads to the next choice the highly rated Ugarte from Sporting, who has the passing ability and defensive nous to do a decent Bruno impression.

2) The second is a left back BDB has done admirably but is limited going forward and Targett is solid if unspectacular so we could use an upgrade.

Kieran Tierney has been linked and he’s a great player if injury prone, personally I’d like us to look at Maehle from Atalanta who could be a bit like what Santon was for us but better.

3) Now it’s more about options rather than improving the first 11. First we need someone who can play as a striker but also contribute out wide.
Rumours are Ekitike will be available but though he is talented I wouldn’t touch with a barge poll as long as he’s with his agent as they give off Pogba/Raiola vibes.

For me a simple option is to go back to last year’s list and get Joao Pedro (even if part of me thinks he will be a midfielder long term)

4) The next one is a specialist wide player and with Isak up top we would benefit IMO from a wide player who’s going to get beyond him and score goals.

The dream signing would be Diaby from Leverkusen but again how realistic it is I don’t know. Domestic  options who could flourish would be Harvey Barnes and Jared Bowen especially if either of their teams go down. Doku of Rennes could be a cheaper continental option.

5) The next one is a replacement for Lascelles as a back up RCB and someone to challenge Schar. Schar is so important to us with his quality on the ball and his ability to step up and intercept the ball to nullify attacks.

There are 2 players who I think could do well here Todibo from Nice and Lacroix from Wolfsburg. Both good on the ball can step up and as a bonus have a bit more pace. Either could be great long term partners for Sven.

6) Finally I think we need a long term DM to give us more options we have been linked with Varela from Boca but there seems to be vultures circling there. Other options on the more physical side of things could be Diarra from Strasbourg or Lopy from Reims.

When Rice does go it will be for a much lower fee but it will be "undisclosed" so that West Ham can look like they got a lot of money for him.

"Undisclosed" means nothing these days. The amount will get leaked regardless of how much it is and then everyone will find out a year down the line when the accounts come out anyway.

Yeah I think the number 6 will be someone like Kone, Kephren Thuram or Alvarez from Ajax. And as you said the money we’d save might go on someone like a Diaby or Maddison.

I just can’t see us spending most our budget on Rice when Howe will likely want to keep Bruno in that starting number 6 position. Yes we do need a player to cover but I feel it’ll be someone else from Europe we haven’t even mentioned for a quarter of the price. I think the money will be spent on high quality higher up the pitch but we’ll wait and see! Exciting times.

Group stages, two wins & two draws, plus three 50k home games is £25m+ and that's not including additional sponsorship money. No wonder these teams who qualify year after year can keep spending so much!
